Happy Belated Birthday.

I turn 30 next Friday and am going to Spain on Tuesday to celebrate for a week. The ring has been made and her old man is smuggling it out there at the weekend.

I'm just struggling for ideas.

I mean my mate is.

Happy birthday too!

Personally I enjoy the surprise angle but that's because everyone in my family loves a surprise hehe

If you're going to do a speech or a few sentences, make sure you practice in the mirror.

It might feel strange but if you nail it then that's something that sticks in her and other peoples minds, in the weeks after our proposal I had a lot of compliments about how well I presented myself etc

Where possible, keep the ring with you, you may not think of an idea but end up in a situation that's perfect and you can just do it (that's where the speech practice comes in handy wink )
Thank you. Certainly no speeches.

I'm not going to do it on the actual day as that is reserved for me hehe

I'm thinking over dinner and a bottle of wine.

Only problem is the in-laws are away with us for a few days.

I have booked us into a beach club on the wedneday

Could be the time.

This is a good read, planning to propose to my GF on this upcoming Christmas day when we will be in L.A. visiting her family.

Not got any flashes of inspiration yet of the mechanics of it, other than just wrapping the ring box in a bigger, and very un-engagement ring-like box.
I proposed to my ex 7 years ago on Christmas day. I've probably ruined Christmas forever for her.

I have already had the ring made by Nightmare (PH'er). Picked it up last weekend. Lovely thing it is too.

Glad you got that sorted Scott!

I got the eternity ring he'd been doing for us too - awesome work. She loved it when I surprised her with that on our anniversary.
Thanks. Did you go and pick it up?

Good stuff.

Thoughts at the minute are a day at the beach club, out for dinner, then a walk along the marina then to propose?

Sounds like you've employed an element of class in the ring. I mean no disrespect, but I'd not diminish that by proposing in a Marbs beach club.

Fun enough place to visit (I was in Ocean club 3 weeks ago) but not what I would consider a romantic setting by a long, long way. The only comparable in the contributions beneath would be the lad who proposed in a strip joint.

Just my tuppence..
Oh god no, not actually in the beach club. I'm going to laguna village for the day then back to Duquesa for the evening meal and walk around the marina there.

In breif she said yes.

Her dad had the ring as he was supposed to be going to spain prior to us so that was the transport sorted. He called me 12 hours prior to my flight telling me he now can't get out due to work.

This is a major problem as he isn't local. Lucking the missus was visiting her sister so he wrapped it up in a big box as it is my birthday on friday, rang the missus and said she had to come and collect my present.

The missus now has her own ring wrapped up for me... We can't put it in hand luggage because we don't know what the actual gift he has got me which he has packaged it up with. So it dissapears into the hold and I eagerly await the return of the case. Last case out on the conveyor belt had me sweating.

Her mother, who is in spain suggested we go to the missus' favourite restaurant for our arrival, we drank a lot, had a good time, went back to the villa to exchange our anniversary gifts. Went out on the upstairs terrace told her to close her eyes and dropped down on the knee.

All evening she thought I had got her a kitten. Anyway she loved the ring courtesy of our fellow PHer nightmare and all the more special it was made.

Glad it is done now as the stress was turning me grey.

Vegas for the stag. FIL's orders.

Congratulation.

I'm clearly not the only one on here who got the reply "Are you serious" rather than yes. biggrin In fact I pointed out to her sometime later that she never did actually say yes, to which her reply was "Well I kept the ring" biggrin
After 5 minutes of "are you for real?", i said do you want it or not?
