Morning all.

I’ll soon be spending 10 days at HMP Novotel Heathrow on return from a red list country.

Just a heads up if anyone has any questions.

I’ll certainly need something distracting to pass the time.

Booked from the 17th.

I’m not there til the 17th.

For one person it’s £1750. Pay upfront. There’s a payment plan option over 12 months but it’s means tested.

I’ve tried every angle but there’s no dodging it.

Turn up in the UK without a booking and it’s a £4000 fine.

You don’t get to choose your hotel, no upgrades offered.

Price includes 3 meals (room service) PCR test after 2 days, another after 8.

There’s no early release option and if a booking is changed a £200 admin fee.

Getting married in Kenya plus have some property issues to resolve.

The wedding is our third attempt so, yes it could be delayed again but eventually a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.

As for risk to me. Not concerned in the slightest.

Travelling to a green list country for ten days is a bit of a myth. Most have there own entry rules. I’d have to pay somewhere for a 10 day stay, pay a flight to there and one to the UK, still test here on arrival.

It wouldn’t be cheaper really, and probably even more hassle.

People say it but when you look - it’s not realistic.

The food will be an issue, I eat well and exercise a lot so I can see me wearing out the carpet for sure.

Yes. Same as BJs dad.

Dealing with essential property issues (making sure the pool is clean)

And meeting agents.

Plus a wedding.

So it’s allowed but some serious hurdles are put in the way.

Not had any vaccinations so an Amber country is no help.

I’m not gonna lie. It’s a total hassle getting back but it’d be more so going somewhere else to save a few quid.

Cant be bothered

I’m all set

If you’re getting married then presumably you’re quarantining with the new missus when u get back?

In which case you’ll probably be getting a lifetimes worth of nookie squeezed in those ten days? Haha
Ha ha. That’d be nice.

Unfortunately she is flying back to Qatar so I’ll be on my lonesome channeling my inner Alan Partridge in the Linton travel tavern.

Have you considered hiring a lookalike and getting them to carry out your stay on your behalf?
Good idea.

Alas Dwayne Johnson is busy promoting Jungle Cruise and Al Murray is working on new material.

The government have got it sewn up.

There’s zero chance of getting out of it and I’ve tried every angle and then some.

On the plus side I’ll have two good weeks in Kenya, private jet to Nairobi this evening and a 3 day stay at the end on Watamu beach.

If you test positive your stay is extended at extra cost.

Yes, when I said room service, it’s the Novotel LHR, can’t imagine it’s the Four seasons at the best of times so it’ll be a tray at the door I’m sure.

I’m not looking forward to it which is one of the reasons I started this thread to keep me from getting stir crazy.

Some good questions

1. No takeaway or Deliveroo allowed
2. If you abscond the hotel security can’t physically detain you BUT it’s a £4000 fine and the cops will find you 100%
3. The story is the story. Wife is Kenyan, lives in Qatar, I’m British live in London. We have property in Nairobi and Siaya, will move there permanently in 2023. Met on Tinder, LDR, private jet is courtesy of Qatar airways.
4. I’d love a concept 2 in the room but nothing doing.

Thanks for the best wishes. Much appreciated,

It was originally planned for March 2020, then September. Caterers, venue, photographer, and more all paid nearly two years ago.

The thing is we will never see that money again, if I keep postponing the suppliers (who to be fair are African small businesses) will just disappear so we’ve bit the bullet.

Even on The 26th Kenya issued a bulletin enforcing travellers from Qatar to quarantine for 10 days. Fortunately that was revised due to kicking off to allow Kenyan citizens to avoid it.

I’ve not had a vaccine, never felt the need and can’t see what advantage that’d give me.

Some great responses and questions.

I shall definitely pick up on them.

Off in a little over an hour now.

I’m 55, she’s 34 and she is punching well above her weight with an extremely powerfully built Director such as me!

We’ve been together 3 years so it’s not new, I’ve always been very open on here, feel free to check, it all links up.

I’ve answered as to why I’ve not had the vaccine, answered as to why I’m going, answers as to my circumstances.

I’m not going to be persuaded otherwise.

One thing I will say is you’ll never ever find me decrying someone’s significant choices. We all make them and we make them in the knowledge of the information we have.

Yes I’m a middle aged man with an African fiancée 20 odd years my junior. Many will find that crazy.

Well, I am crazy. I’m not looking at my pension pot, I’m not considering a funeral plan or buying Chums elastic waisted trousers out of the Sunday papers.

I’m going to Kenya, Private jet. Thursday 5th Im getting 2 teeth re veneered in Nairobi CBD, while there being made I’ll stroll round to my tailor Gjey Mavazi and choose the fabric for half a dozen shirts he will make me. I’ll have lunch, pick up the shirts, have the two veneers attached at 5pm and including lunch I’ll have change from a £100.

What are some of the people on here doing?

Yes, quarantine is a ball ache. Yes, it’s mental but trust me it’s 10 days, I’ll live with it.

And thanks for all the positivity. It’s most welcome. It’s infectious and energising.

I definitely will.

Of course Kenyan food is no great shakes.

As part of the Dowry I’ve purchased 10 cows an 8 goats. On the big day I have to herd them along the street to the family compound where granny will either agree to accepting them in exchange for her Granddaughter or not! (Dowry also includes 20+ envelopes of cash)

One of the goats will be slaughtered and eaten as part of the ceremony.

Incidentally Granny (who loves me) is reputed to be 104!! No one really knows but suffice to say she is head of the family. There’s a curfew in Kenya at present and no gatherings over 30 permitted but Granny has advised the local Chief of Police who will do as told and let the party continue til the sun comes up.

06.30. I’m in Nairobi. Thanks for all the messages no matter the message it’s welcome.

Teeth and tailor tomorrow

I’ll do my best to stay active on here.

CDG. Yes! Come!

Ochola Estate
Nyang oma
Siaya county
Kenya

Anytime Saturday fella. I’ll recognise you, military bearing - and set you up with a local.

Then a 10 hour drive in 4 cars to the family village. Me and 8 guys are staying on Friday night at the Bondo Pride hotel in Bondo 4 miles from Nyang Oma where the ceremony will take place.

Fiancé is flying Nairobi to Kisumu today to prepare in situ.

Flight was unreal, a first, courtesy of Qatar airways.

Yes. Please feel free to send anything, I like cereal, clothes and watches.

Yes!! See below.

I phoned into LBC Saturday I think as I called them last March when the wedding was first postponed. The lady (Camilla I think) was as flabbergasted as most on here but for me it’s standard stuff.

Basically mental.

Thanks for your kind words.

As for the doubters.

There are things that happen to others that we simply cannot conceive. Sometimes the explanation is unbelievable, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

You don’t others do.

Having just read this I understand why you’re getting married in Kenya, sounds far better than a yurt in a soggy field in the U.K. at great expense!

Enjoy the experience.

Is it one of Qatar’s own exec jets they’re sticking you on it are they chartering for you?
It was one of there own.

Gulfstream 650 which apparently is the fastest private jet available. 13 person capacity cruises at 51,000 ft and hits Mach 1.

Fiancé works for Qatar airways.

Coming back on Kenya airways economy.
