So thinking about getting laser eye surgery to correct my short-sightedness and keep seeing these "from £350" promotions - obviously the cost is going to be a lot more (classic promotional hook a la Easyjet).

So, with a perscription strength of -5.00 and -4.25, does anyone know what realistically I could expect to pay?

Want a good outfit (such as ultralase - sp?) and not a butcher with blood on his apron !

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at this long running thread which has a lot of information.

The cost seems to vary on the prescription. I was -3.75 and -3.5 and it cost £1900 at Accuvision in Fulham for both eyes.

From my experience of working with Optical Express, they wouldn't be my first port of call.

I worked in the Dental side and the treatment the dentist and I carried out was of my usual excellent standard tongue out, but their "management" was an absolute joke!

Anyway "from" £350 an eye, if you have the basic lasik and have a mild prescription.

I have -5.25 in each eye and was quoted £3150 and thats with staff discount!

Have you tried eating loads of mars bars as a cure for your bad eyesight?

It won't actually cure the problem but I believe diabetics get laser eye surgery for free, so it's worth a go. . . . . .

Accuvision.

Whatever they say it will cost. Is right.

Whatever they say you need. Is right.

I have yet to read / hear a bad report. I have had my eyes and my families / friends eyes corercted by them.

A real life changer.

That's how my wife feels about Vision Express. Superb surgery, marinally incompetent management but life-changing results for just over £3k.

Had both mine done. Don't know anyone who has been anywhere near to £395 per eye. More like £1200 per eye minimum, rising to around £1400-1500 per eye for the latest technology.
The £395 per eye seems just a con to get you through the door, and based on the fact that you have turned up at all means you are extremely interested.

I had mine done about 3 years ago.

£595 per eye but I know 2 people (uncle and my sister) who both had theirs done at the "con price".

It's not a con at all.

I had mine done a couple of years ago - £895 from Optimax.

But that was for epi-lasek which I'm told is a bit out dated these days. I've had lasik too & their price was about £1500 back then IIRC.

Most people who need permanently corrected vision are short sighted.

Most short sighted people also have astigmatism.

Laser eye surgery cannot correct astigmatism so you may as well go for some nice comfortable toric lenses.

I had mine done at £395 per eye and that was to correct with an astigmatism. That was with Optimax in Croydon. It certainly wasn't a con, amazingly they were advertising them as spare appointments on ebay! Other than occasionally getting dry eyes in the first 6 months I have been totally fine. Two of my friends had it done with them as well, one had about as many issues as me but the other had real problems with bright lights for a couple of months. It took him about a year to get over the problems completely but he just followed the advice given to him and he doesn't have any problem either now.
