P90X - Bring It!!
Discussion
YogaX last night and it tested me.
I've done a few of the wifes DVDs before, so kind of knew what was involved and despite my size and lack of fitness I'm fairly flexible. But, Tony tested my patience with this! It was very advanced and it was so quick, with little explanation that I became very frustrated very quickly. The wife helped out by explaining how to adapt moves and make them easier, I just felt that where the other dvds mention modified moves, this had none of that.
Oh, and I'f I can do a Crane in 3 months I'll be fking amazed!
If you're 110 kg now, your BMR is going to be around 2100 cals, so aim for maybe 2k as a minimum. That's total intake - it's hard to measure exercise cals, especially with something like P90X so trying to work out net cals becomes quite difficult. Thanks for this. I'm going to stick to my diet/food intake as it currently is, as I think this will set me in good stead for the future. What I am going to do though is use a shake in the day and then a post workout recovery shake to up the calorie intake. I've ordered some Recovery XS and some sample packs of True MRP from MyProtein to experiment with.
Does anyone have suggestions on what sort of shake to use in the day? I'm looking to lose weight and build some muscle, not bulk up. I want to help keep the calories there and also up my protein intake. (Searching PH is still down!)

I'd like to build some, losing weight is more important to me really. What sort of net intake do you think I should aim for?
Calculate your BMR, eat about that many calories, maybe slightly less. The exercise will burn off fat, everything else goes for maintenance of current tissue. You don't want to heavily restrict calories as not only does it make you feel like crap due to low blood glucose, but your body has an annoying habit of preferentially burning off muscle if you go too low.If you're 110 kg now, your BMR is going to be around 2100 cals, so aim for maybe 2k as a minimum. I'm going to find the fat shredder stage a challenge, especially with the high protein, low Carb diet. I've just tracked a normal eating day for me on myfitnesspal as a starting point. Almost 3000 calories without trying too hard, mostly carbs!
Yeah, carbs have a shocking amount of calories compared to other stuff!5678 said:

I'd suggest you're making a mistake in not sticking to the correct number of calories and ratios in the plan. The fat shredder works well because it is very low carb and high protein. If you are not eating enough then it will be a lot less effective. It does seem weird that you have to eat more to lose more but because you are low carb when you train your glycogen stores empty faster and fat is burned instead of carbs. I only sorted out my diet in the second week and really saw the difference (in the mirror) between the two weeks.

Thanks for that. I only sorted out my diet in the second week and really saw the difference (in the mirror) between the two weeks.
Whilst I am actively trying to cut carbs to the level in the guide, there is a line of practicality that I have to stick to. We have an 18 month old son and cooking two lots of meals is not a route we want to go down.
I accept that it may limit the results I get, but I'm OK with that.

Stick with it! It's taken me 5 or 6 goes but is well worth the effort. Having never done yoga before, all the moves were totally new to me and because for most of the time you spend looking at your nuts and tackle, being able to see how to do the moves means coming out of the move, removing any benefit. But, once you get to know the moves, it becomes easier...well, not easier but it all flows better and the benefits are certainly worth the effort. As for the shakes, I've been using Maximuscle Promax. I've nothing to compare it to but I'm very happy with this.

That's it! Not knowing what I was supposed to be doing was the most annoying part. As for the shakes, I've been using Maximuscle Promax. I've nothing to compare it to but I'm very happy with this.
My MyProtein delivery turned up today so keen to see how bad it tastes!

I use a Strawberry Cream flavoured MyProtein shake and it tastes nice. Perhaps a little too sweet but very drinkable.

Is it a case you have to but these DVD's or can you get the info off the web ?

You can get it from "sources" on the web, but after trying with various attempts I gave up (passwords, missing files, etc.) and I just bought them. Ive tried the Mint Chock chip stuff to that wasnt very nice TBH.

I've got some Mint Choc/Choc/Strawberry TrueMRP to try that I'm going to start on tomorrow as an early afternoon snack.
