A question I have been wondering about for a while, if coke zero and the like have no calories apart from the crap that's in it being not good for you,is there any weight loss benefit in drinking water instead?
There is a school of thought which says that diet soft drinks can cause similar insulin spikes to their sugared companions due to tricking the brain that they contain sugars. It interests me too as Pepsi Max is a bit of a habit of mine. Surfr said:

Classic Bro science. There is actually very little evidence of this. One requires glucose to impact insulin. I've heard diet drinks give you cancer, make you blind but hey you retain your teeth.
That's good news than. Certainly seems to be more evidence to the contrary, than when I first looked. Surfr said:

Ive read both that and the opposite that having a 'diet' drink can help with dieting due to the fake sugar and caffeine.Fizzy drinks make me feel bloated, though so I only have them as a treat.

Artificial sweeteners don't actually satisfy the body's craving for sugars, so you still want proper sweet stuff. That's the problem.
I only drink diet coke etc as a mixer with a spirit because full fat coke is too sweet. Your comment re satiation is the same reason why low fat cheese or any low fat versions of foods is a waste of time-no flavour no satisfaction. Why don't people just drink plain tap water, rather than expensive flavoured water full of sweeteners (of any type) and often pumped full of CO2?
Do many of you get most of your hydration from 'soft drinks'?
Whilst growing up, my parents seemed to hydrate solely on cups of Nescafé.....
