End of day 2 and I feel like crap. Terrible headache and very irritable. I've been here before and know it will pass, but it's still not nice. Still planning on having a drink on NYE but I will be sticking to spirits.
How long do people stick to this before having carbs to reset? I'm thinking 2 weeks.
I don’t ever have carbs to reset. I sometimes fall off the wagon but that way lies heartburn insomnia and rapid weight gainHow long do people stick to this before having carbs to reset? I'm thinking 2 weeks.
Headache might be down to sugar clucks or have you also cut caffeine back?

Definitely sugar withdrawal, I was drinking 4 or 5 cups of tea a day but that was an excuse for a biscuit. I was eating way too much sweet stuff.I’ve been laid up for almost two years due to various surgeries, I’m hoping that’s all behind me. I’m slowly building up walking distance, managed 8k yesterday, comfortably at a good pace.
I used to do a lot of hill walking, I hope to get back in to it after the winter.
I’m embarrassed looking at myself atm, a lot of my strength has gone in two years.
This thread has inspired me to try Keto. Got about 2 stone to lose so we’ll see how it goes. Day two so far and have got a killer headache, which I understand is quite normal when beginning. I have heard mention of electrolyte supplements can help with this; any suggestions or views?
Have been tracking everything on myfitness and noticed my protein consumption is higher than it needs to be, today was approx 35%.

The headache is almost certainly sugar withdrawal. You'll get over it. It might prompt some thoughts on whether you ever want that back.
A bit over on protein won't do you any harm - that's basically Atkins. But it is probably worth tweaking your diet to get it "right" if only so you know what diet you are on!

I did Atkins many moons ago (maybe something like 12?!) and lost a fair bit, So low carbs isn’t ‘new’ to me but Keto is. There is a wealth of information online, it’s just getting into the mindset of eating lots more fat. The headache seems to have passed and woke up this morning with a fair amount of energy. Could be placebo effect, but either way I’m not complaining. Watch this spaceA bit over on protein won't do you any harm - that's basically Atkins. Still not back in Ketosis after 3 and bit days of being very strict! Mind you, I did eat six portions of dessert on Boxing Day!
Some things I noticed after my three day carb binge:
I fart a lot when eating carbs
I get bloated and uncomfortable
There’s about 2kg of water weight
I have no self control when given access to sugar
I didn’t really enjoy it
The only upside I noticed was my gym performance. The day after Boxing Day I found my usual gym weights to be noticeably easier.
Just got to stay strong on New Year’s Eve and I’ll be back on track - 15kg down since September with a further 12kg to go for my annual medical in July!

I think I might lay an egg next time I go to the toilet, I really need to find an alternative food source, but it is working. I'm down 3.1kg since I started on Tuesday and I am finding it a lot easier than I expected. Felt a little rough at the end of day 2 but other than that I've had no difficulty. Looking forward to a drink or two tonight, but it will be spirits only.
Really enjoying some of the recipes for Keto eating.... earlier in the week had this:

Which was very tasty... tonight attempting this:

Are you taking fibre supplements? Went off track a little last night and had a few sweets from the Quality Street tin, but back on track today.

Not taking any supplements, drinking water like it's my job. I'm getting plenty of greens. I'm taking Tramadol for back pain which is probably the reason.

Ha I hit the quality street too. They’re not as nice as I remember Went off track a little last night and had a few sweets from the Quality Street tin, but back on track today.
Never mind, it gives me a nice round number to start the year with!
Went back to keto on Jan 1st to shift some weight.
I find it really works for me, but doesn't mix well with MA training (as per previous post), so I'm laying off the training for three or four weeks. I want to shift 10kg, 4kg down already. I'm also using it as a distraction to stop me from drinking through January as well.
Eggs form a large part of my diet but I can sicken myself on them. I found Gordon Ramsey's scrambled eggs recipe which is definitely worth a try, particularly with smoked salmon.

Have been using that egg method for around 6 months, can’t remember the last poached egg I’ve had since. Potential for TMI in this one:
Since Xmas I've fallen off the Keto wagon a bit mainly due to visiting family and eating away from home where I have less control over what's in a dish, and then there have been a few personal and professional challenges in the last month which has meant time really has been at a premium and I've ended up cooking stuff like pasta and rice based dishes simply down to the speed of preparation.
What I have noticed is that my increased carb intake has coincided with an increase in wind, and loose movements in the morning.
I'm making a conscious effort to get back into my keto regime and with the new job (starting on Monday) allowing me to work from home 4 days a week, it should be easier to get back into it. Will be interesting to see if the digestive changes also go away

Yeah, I find I never fart when doing Keto, it’s definitely the sugars and carbs that cause it for me. Never had any No2 issues though, other than I’m dropping the kids off every other day now, rather than daily!
I’ve been on Keto for about four months now and it’s served it’s purpose - I’ve lost 17kg and getting close to target weight. Recently I’ve been a bit less strict and had the odd burger (in bread bun) and it still hasn’t kicked me out of Ketosis. Anything below 50g total carbs seems to be fine.
However, I think for the next couple of months I’m going to just do low carb, still aiming for <50g carbs but as I’m doing quite a bit in the gym I’m going to up the protein significantly to about 130g a day. I think the macros work out about 7% carb / 33% protein / 60% fat. I’ll probably still end up in Ketosis but I’m not going to worry about having a bit of fruit or a cappuccino.
Keto is still a great way to eat, though. Especially if you’re a man and you basically live on meat and cheese anyway!

Thought I’d give this Keto diet a go,
Started today, and already struggling to get my macros used
Slept in so had 4 egg omellette with 50g baby spinach,5 cherry tomatoes and 35g mozzarella for lunch
Snack, 25g almonds & cappuccino
And I’m planning a 190g sirloin steak with 2 poached eggs ,an avocado and some asparagus
I could do with some recipes to help makes this a little more interesting

There's that Gordon Ramsey scrabbled eggs I linked to above. You can add salmon as well.
My staples are tinned tuna with celery, spring onions and FF mayo and also shop bought roast chicken breasts (or roast a chicken which is a lot cheaper).
Steak with garlic mushrooms in a balsamic glaze is also really tasty (very quick and easy) as well. I bastardised/simplified this https://www.flickr.com/photos/buytees/4635746519 to:

- Cook seasoned steak in frying pan (griddle if you're posh) to your preference in a little sunflower oil (to stop butter burning) and say knob/15g of unsalted butter. Remove steak from pan (but retaining juices in pan) once done and set aside on a warm plate to rest whilst:
- Place chestnut (but can be normal) mushrooms (peeled and quartered, as many as you like) and say knob/15g of unsalted butter in the same pan you used for the steak and cook until turning crispy.
- Chuck in a clove or two of chopped garlic with salt for the last minute or so of the mushrooms cooking. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Take crispy mushrooms out of pan and place on plate with steak. Note keep the juices/butter in the pan.
- Add another larger knob/20g ish of unsalted butter along with a good dash (2-3 tablespoons?) of balsamic vinegar. Hold breath so you don't choke, keep stirring whilst scraping nice crispy bits from bottom of pan to reduce/thicken glaze on high heat/rapid bubble. Probs 2 mins or so?
- More salt, stir then pour over steak and mushrooms.
