I had terrible problems about 10 years ago - guts ache, rushing to loo, but worst of all dreadfully vertigo. The whole World was spinning and I couldn't even crawl to the loo to be sick. GP just kept saying "inner ear" like a broken record, and I said "but something is causing it, every time it happens after I've eaten, and I get terrible guts ache". Their answer 'Take anti-dizzy pills"
" Don't exercise " was their advice, but I wasn't about to give up riding the bike, in fact that was the only time I seemed to be symptom-free.
It all became clear when my Wife said "go and see a nutritionist (sp?) "
Told her (N) the symptoms, and she immediately said "Dozey lot...... I bet a pound to a penny you're lactose intollerant - come off all milk straight away"
£40 well spent - improved daily, but it took a couple of weeks before I 'felt well' again. As for Helicobacter, about 6 months later I had bad acidity, she said 'try this Mastic Gum for 10 days' and again she was spot on - no more acid reflux.
If you can afford to see a nutritionist (private of course, otherwise you may wait for ever) it could be money well spent.
Good luck.

I’ve been skipping breakfast recently and going from 6pm to midday next day with no food.

Now going back to breakfast in a morning and amazing how bogged down it can make me feel.

It makes you realise how much our bodies really don’t need to be always fed, and is very likely a bad thing for our health.

But you can’t make money selling not eating.

You can’t make money taking things away, only by selling ‘things’ to try make it better.

Did the OP ever get to the bottom of this problem?

Hi,

Not yet. I’m changing a few things in my diet as suggested in the last page or so to see if that helps things but it’ll be a while before I can report back.

Honestly I would be cancelling all holidays etc. to get this done, it's not worth it.
I appreciate your point. I have a holiday booked but none of my hotels are refundable (because it was expensive to have refundable bookings), so even if I did decide not to bother, having saved up for 4 years, I’d barely be able to afford the most basic of tests they offer, which I’ve already had with my GP.

When I say I don’t have the money I mean it. I’ve considered the options but because I ALWAYS have to be cheap, sometimes it bites me in the arse.

(Pun not intended)

Not sure I can take you seriously. You plead poverty and yet you have just spent 5 figures on a car and are now asking in another thread if you should get a DSLR.

I think when you can feel something isn't right you need to keep phoning up your GP until they start taken your concerns seriously.

A family friend went to their GP a few weeks ago complaining of severe headaches and was sent away without any clear answers, a few days later they had a stroke and were rushed to hospital, clot in their brain had to be cleared with a wire.

Now they've been in hospital for a few weeks, paralysed down the right side and unable to speak. If you know somethings wrong being a gobste could save you.

Don’t then. I’m not asking you to.

Edit - wasn’t going to bother explaining myself but I will.

I’ve saved up for over 3 years to buy a newer car. I’ve been driving around in a £2000 stbox with the EML on which does less than 28MPG, parts are impossible to find and it was always a worry whether it was going to work each morning. Yes, I’ve spent some money but I’m better off each month and it’s less stressful.

The DSLR question was because I was intrigued. My plan was to buy one, use it, then probably sell it after I was back again, not that it’s any of your business.

Day to day my budget is already stretched so if I've paid for something I’m sure as hell going to use it.

Kept pestering.

After the previous ‘take 2 paracetamol 4 times a day’ advice, I wasn’t holding much hope but finally l’ve had an abdominal ultrasound.

Now I’m just going to be worrying until I get the results.

I was in the room for absolutely ages and the guy took what seemed like hundreds of pictures, a lot of which were in the same area. Quite a lot of them had arrows on and because I’m thinking the worst, arrows are bad.

Fingers crossed it’s nothing.

Didn’t update this before but the ultrasound has been looked at and the result was “normal, no further action” yet again.

Since then I’ve had an appointment with a Gastroenterologist who didn’t seem to have much to offer to help other than “it looks like IBS”. All they’ve been able to suggest is trying an elimination diet again. In total I was on the phone for 7 minutes.

Got a face to face appointment with the GP next month and I’m going to see if there’s anything else they can recommend for me to do.

ETA - they have reiterated that it’s “definitely nothing major”, which is good news still, although not entirely helpful when I’m suffering daily.

Having spoken to the GE, I got a prescription through the post for Linoclatide.

I’m 3 days in and it has not been fun so far, I don’t feel safe being far away from the toilet.

Hoping it’ll settle down a bit and I’ll start to feel some improvements this week.

Bit late to see your comment, but do you recall which brand of mastic gum it was - I understand some are better than others?

Bionutri - not cheap (what is now), but much better than being ill, and (to me anyway) it was more attractive than the triple antibiotic regime the GP offered.
Mastic gum turned out to be a 'miracle cure' as far as I was concerned. I hope you get good results also.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I've been suffering with gastro stuff for a while so its worth a try.

Where did you buy from? I'm wary of Amazon these days due to fake products so wondered if you bought from somewhere else?

Wife sourced it online from Holland & Barrett or similar. Maybe a search on natural remedies or similar may lead you to it. It was some time ago.

OP, just to say I empathise, and i admire your persistence with the relevant medical people.
I'm not a doctor, but my experience says things like this are nearly always diet or stress.
I've had some poor advice over the years, but at the time I didn't know it was poor advice.
Take another look at what you eat, and what you don't eat, try out some different combinations.
Sensible ones I mean, don't starve, think what the human body actually needs, and cut out junk.
I can see from your posts that you have done a lot of this already, but have another go.

OK thanks, been on Lanzoprazole for over 20 years now and its effectiveness is wearing off as I get older. Definitely going to try this gum

Did you get your issue sorted? Reason I ask is i've got a similar problem. Feels like i'm constantly bloated with the evening being worst and feels like my stomach muscles are stretched.

I suspect it is stress related as it started the day after my wife had a miscarriage five weeks ago. It sort of went away for a week but then came back after she was rushed back into hospital for emergency surgery after some complications with a procedure she had. Ever since then it hasn't gone away and I feel fine stress wise now so I would have thought it'd have gone by now if it was stress related. I usually do alot of running and exercise which has been pretty much none existent for the past month or so but I tried running yesterday and it felt like I had a horrendous stitch right from the start.

Trying to book a GP appointment is a nightmare at the moment. Got through 2 days in a row after calling at opening time and waiting for 45 minutes to be told there's no appointments and to try again tomorrow. Try 111 who say go the GP or A&E if it's really troubling me but like the OP that feels a bit OTT. On Friday i'm just going to the GP in person and try and book there and then.

Sorry to hear what you’ve been going through.

I’m still suffering the same issues so can’t offer much in the way of help I’m afraid. I’m 88 days into a 90 day prescription which has been awful and then on Monday I’ve got another blood test because it had such a bad day last week that I called the doctor and told (rather than asked) him to arrange it.

I’m considering the option that it’s a consequence of sitting at a desk, which obviously isn’t a simple fix.
