I have been using our cross trainer at home since january, which is why I am surprised my hip is playing up to be honest. smile
It could be a combination of factors, not just an isolated cause. Could be result of carrying heavy weight awkwardly (such as child), related to your posture, imbalance in one part of the body (back for example). I'd pay a visit to a physio. Believe me it is worth it. I've been given plenty of advice (lifestyle and exercise) and various exercise regimes by a final year physiotherapy student for the past year and 30 years of problems have almost gone.
yes I was thinking the same thing this morning as it is the hip I carry the boys on. I also regularly see a chiropractor because I have a vertebra in my neck and lower back that keep popping out and I always have problems in my right shoulder, so I think it is all connected. I am going to try the physio as the chiropractor hasn't helped much this year, I have been 4 times and still having problems. Time to try something new I think smile
I had back problems for a few years and it was down to poor posture. I found a combination of Alexander Technique and core stability exercises worked for me. If I stop doing the core stability exercises for any length of time then after a few months my back starts playing up again.

I have been doing pilates once a week since last summer and found that very helpful. I also stretch my lower back and glutes/periformis every day. I tried yoga too but haven't been back since I got whiplash. Only I could get whiplash at yoga hehe

Good idea.
Has it been decided if this is going to be run as a competition, or as a comunity journal where people can log workouts, ask for advice on diet and training, or just keep people motivated.

I've just started exercising after not having done any for years, not to lose weight, just to get fit. I've been jogging daily for the last two weeks, mixed with press ups, sit ups and dips etc whilst I'm jogging, yes it's hard work, but, I already feel MILES better after just two weeks. You'll be amazed at how quickly you notice the difference.
My friend said something very very, true, the hardest step of all, is the first step out the door, get over that and you're away.
Don't join a gym, there's a million miles of exercise and nice scenary to be had out there, plus the weather's picking up!

Boozy(can now do three miles plus quite happily without wanting to stop, which I couldn't do when I started)

I lost over 2 stone at the end of last year and felt great. Managed to get a couple of miles walking in every day as well.

Since then I've been working away and all the weight's gone back on. Could do with a bit of help to get back on track. I'm still working daft hours but I can get to PH from my mobile, so this could be just the push I need to get a bit of support. smile

To maintain a level of privacy (amongst ourselves), we should be able to setup a private/closed forum here on PH, where we can set who can/can't access it.

Don't do gyms - K there's miles of tracks on the common/great park - have you got a bike? Sunday morning hoon?

My target is to lose 2 stone.

Count me in too. Being accountable for progress is just the motivation I need smile

Already taken my 'before' pics yesterday when I discovered this thread and will post them along with 'after' pics once progress is made. Private forum would be good.

I've got most of the kit at home that I need, weights, bench, treadmill etc. and plan to train 3 times a week (cardio maybe 5 times a week).

I don't have a huge amount of weight to lose but, I need to tone up quite a bit.

The easiest way to make a cyber-comparison is to use BMI (body mass index, not cheap airline biggrin ) as this will compensate for height and gender variations. The biggest reduction in BMI wins a fish supper!

I've lost 12lbs since New Year, but I like Cava too much hehe

Agreed. BMI is fairest... but I think we should allow everyone to post their individual goal, and then to aim for that.

Some will want to bulk up and build muscle, some will want to drop a jean size... some will want tight bum cheeks, some will just want to feel fitter again...

So I think we could maybe have individual wiki's and an associated thread so people can ask questions about routines and offer motivation on the thread, and have a link to that persons wiki in the thread which should be updated from time-to-time. Rule is that you need to post a wiki AND a thread to stay in the group (should stop the piss takers getting in...)

I don't mind piss-taking, but others might smile

I'm against using BMI as muscle weighs more than fat and could disadvantage those building muscle. I think that inches and lbs lost (both part of calculation) might give a more accurate indication of greatest loss of body fat. Just my opinion though. I may be wrong as I am no expert but that is what Rosemary Conley used in her programme on Central TV last year. I'm not taking part, just think that this is a great idea and would like to offer encouragement and advice where I can smile

Remember, the original thread title was not purely related to losing weight, but getting fitter.

I'm certain that I'm not alone, although I am definately in the minority, in that I want to GAIN weight, and muscle mass.

It would seem ridiculous to setup two seperate groups with essentially the same aim - getting fitter.

Lots of talk, very little plan it seems - K's put in a request for a seperate forum, can we assume that this will happen, and make some decisions regarding how this is going to work, and when the start will be?

I would suggest that we set a date for the start photos - say 15th April.

Everyone takes their start photo (and lets be honest, in a private area who's gonna extract the urine - if we were happy with our body we wouldn't be doing this now would we? Also, do you really look that different fully dressed compared to underwear? Or do you never plan to meet anyone off here?) and measurements - Chest, mid bicep, waist, hip, calf as well as height and weight. At the same time the aim you have is recorded. WE can then get on with actually achieving said aims.

A weekly review, compared to aims, and support/advice as needed, should be all we need....

Sorry to sound antagonistic, but I feel that typing is hardly the best way to get anywhere...

Sam

ETA - if people are really worried about thier image, how about within said closed forum, a private profile, which could be your regular name, but not necessarily, which could then have the photos/aims recorded? Or is that a step too far?

Edited again -seems whilst I was typing people had similar ideas

Sounds good to me, I don't really care what I weigh, as long as I lose inches and tone my biceps that is fine wink
