I really just regretted clicking on that link and spending an inordinate amount of time thinking thats like something from Alien!
Can you imagine if it happened in the gym, you could NEVER go back.
I once ripped open the back of my trousers squatting that was bad enough never mind having your arse fall out too!

I hope that dude wasn't gay, now that would be a bummer.... I think I better stop...

Me too! It's good fun watching transformations... It's almost enough to make me get off my backside and think about doing some more!
I enjoy seeing other people be successful! I think its why I've enjoyed helping lots of PH'ers be successful in this area.

I hate the heat so i wasnt looking forward to going the gym last night. Im very supprised to say the air con was working a treat. When i walked out it was like getting off a plane in Spain or something.
Ours isn't working.. Emailed the gym, they said they're waiting on a part for the A/C, will be 2 weeks to arrive. No windows etc there either, it's horrible.
My gym doesn't have air con!

Anyway, congrats on the 10k. Just remember not to let the running slip now the race has passed! Half marathon?

Have finally got round to adding some starting pics, not sure if breakfast was the right time to do it though!!

After a week or so of procrastinating I actually got out for a run last night, skipped to week 3 of the Couch to 5k course and got home without the use of an ambulance. Was so much nicer running outside, watching the world go by is a hell of a lot better than fixating on a running machine display.
Good man!

It looks like you've got some muscle hiding under there!

What are your goals over the next 3 months?

There is some muscle left, it's just well concealed!!

As for goals:

1. To run 5k by summer holiday (6 weeks time)
2. To run 10k by end of 3 months
3. To lose 2" from waist by summer holiday
4. To increase strength in core muscles (not sure how to measure this yet, any suggestions?)
Have you planned your diet and training regime yet?

If you want any feedback or help post it here and let some of the more knowledgeable give you feedback! LG, Hoofy etc.

Thanks for that guys, it is very much addictive, I've been adding a quick 5 minute run to the end of every workout session to "burn a couple more calories", and I'm finding myself dissapointed when my HRM says I've burnt any less than 800.
I'm happy, I'm down from size 44 torusers in the first pic, to 40 in the last, and down from XXL to XL shirts, and from 19 shirt collars to 17s.

The odd thing is, because I see myself daily, I haven't really noticed the change as much as when I look at the photos, then it hits me how far I've come.

I picked up a 20kg kettlebell the other day, and I can't believe I used to carry that much around with me. It's fking heavy.

The most obvious thing I have noticed is I no longer get out of breath when walking, or going up stairs, we have 1 flight of stairs at work, one flight, and I used to get out of breath going up them, now I can go up and down there all day and have no problems doing it.
Oh and there's other stamina improvements as well wink

PS I'll try smile in the next photo.
Great effort, Imaging where you'll be in 6-12 months time!

I love success stories!

Once you get old like me, in kip by 2200 and up for brekkers at 0600 is the only way to go.
If I'm pushed for 'time', I just go to bed a little earlier and get up earlier too. Presto! Got an extra hour in the day. wink

I don't really do sleep which I know hurts growth but I genuinely feel, its not necessary for me to sleep much.

I go to bed midnight or after and get back up at around 5-5.30am and either go to work or go for a run along the beach. My girlfriend loves my sleeping habits......NOT!

I'm pretty intense at everything I do and because of that I think I don't sleep much since I'm always so alert.

Most blokes are like this... and most female partners are like your gf! Every woman in a relationship I've spoken to about the subject of sleep complains that their male partner goes to bed late. I've been guilty of this myself, of course, and used to go for 4 hours a night for a few years.

Whether we feel we need it or not (most blokes don't; although I know one who knows he needs 9 hours' sleep a night irked ... what a waste of life), we do need it. It's not just for our muscles to grow but our immune system to regenerate and our brain to recharge; plus there's a link between getting under 7 hours a night and an increased chance of stroke. Which is me fked because even if I go for 8 hours, I'm rarely asleep for more than 5.

Of course, just to complicate matters, if you do get lots of sleep and still feel tired, chances are you aren't exercising enough!
To be honest, I think folk like you, me and some of the people that train hard take a different view on life. Most couch potato guys I know actually sleep quite a lot even if its not as much as their girlfriends.

I realise I should sleep more its just down to the fact it goes against what I'm like. When I was bulking, training very hard and eating lots of food, I tried various sleeping tablets to help me sleep a bit longer and it was a partial success.

The thing that actually worked most for me was finding the right level of intensity and training in the evening. If I train flat out, I can't sleep for several hours afterwards due to exhaustion but if I got it right I slept very well.

Hi everyone!

Can we have a status update on how everyone is getting on? It's about time for everyone to provide an update!

Apologies for being a bit AWOL recently, I've been dealing with some personal stuff and also been very busy in work.

My training is going ok although I feel I've not been as dedicated as I usually am. I'm just slimming down for summer I've got an aim to be in great shape for September when I'm planning to go away (I've had 1 1/2 days off since last January eek )

I hope everyone is well and doing well anyway!

I didn't actually enter the 'Transformation' thing.. But;

7 weeks & lost 9kg so far.

Much, much fitter it's unbelievable! First started going, struggled to do a few miles on the bike.. Yesterday I busted out 20 miles cycling and could have kept going, just got abit bored. My target is the London>Brighton next year so need to double what I'm doing so far. Also doing some weights and definitely lifting more etc.
7 weeks and 9KG is good going! Can we officially consider you part of the PH transformation group?

Is that 1 1/2 days off work or off training? If training, how have you cycled it and how's it fit with recuperation/growth goals?

Are you still doing the higher rep/shorter rest bodybuilder type routine BTW?

I know I never formally joined - ducked out as stated way back given I'd started earlier and begun to hit the slowing down process - partly self-inflicted but, back on track now and the weight is shifting pretty quickly again. Now lost over 5 stone, am way fitter, not too much weaker and look like a different person basically.
Work!

I train intensely and can only really manage 3 days a week at that level (my is flat out knackered the rest of the week!)

I'm still growing well and my muscle density has changed from this type of training, I guess its from different volume/exercises.

I've grown massively more doing it this way than I've ever done it. I'm going back to strength training next month for 3 months so its like a simple periodisation routine.

Glad you're doing well buddy.

Cheers.

Has your weight grown on this routine or is it size up/fat down or more capillary/sarcoplasm size?

Also, before the strength routine (presumably lower reps) has it stalled or moved up with the size at all?
Weight has gone up as muscle size drastically has. I'm 16st 4 and have about 1/2 stone-3/4 of a stone of fat to lose.

Strength is about the same but when I've gone for it I've been able to hit personal bests. I can do it in short bursts but don't feel overall as strong even if I can set personal bests if that makes any sense at all. When I've done a personal best my strength has taken much longer to return afterwards.

I'm absolutely a fan of periodisation now. I've been blindly following my coaches instructions as he has such a deep knowledge of it all and has a track record of getting people he trains to grow well. He almost seems to take a completely different approach with everyone he trains.

I've been essentially doing a type of volume training but what he has really taught me is to make contact with the muscle and really work it even with much less weight. From having me adjust grip so I work different muscles more effectively to using my brain to really focus on the muscle and its contraction. I can actually now destroy a muscle very quickly with a really light weight by absolutely focusing on it and its contraction.

Essentially I've learnt how to really work muscles and take the most from them every session.
