I'm going back in.
Today is the last day of my self-imposed 6 week detox. I feel much better for the break, and hope that I can have a better relationship with alcohol after this hard reset.
It will be tricky not to, given the combination of Long Weekend plus Good Weather.Today is the last day of my self-imposed 6 week detox. I feel much better for the break, and hope that I can have a better relationship with alcohol after this hard reset.
I've booked another weekend away, going to be driving the south coast with the roof down and staying at some nice hotels. I actually can't wait to wake up fresh and get out early to find some good driving roads.
Amazing that I can do this now without even thinking about beer, a complete turn around.
I'm very interested to hear from those who took a long break and then went back. Did you "reset" as a poster above said? Can you really have a better relationship with alcohol or does it always inevitably creep back to the old levels?

The Euro trip sets off on the 27th of May in a 570S Spider. Two people have asked me about that today, I'm always undecided whether to blog them in case it's boring everyone to death but there seems to be some interest already. Thanks!
To get back on topic, if I still haven't drunk by then I'm not sure what I will do. It will be 5 months then and that would seem a long run to break for the sake of a holiday. Although I did always intend to go back to it though but just with better control.
First world probs definitely.

I completed 599 days sober then fell off in spectacular style, my binge continued for about a month, yes I drunk less just due to lower tolerance. I’m back to sober 12 days so far.6 inches in 4 weeks , result !
Only way I could resist the sugar was to empty the fridge & cupboards of all my treats
Eat lots of pineapple bananas melon carrots etc now and a little 85-100% dark chocolate works for me .
The sugar craving does diminish pretty quickly .
Keep going it gets much easier , honestly

Recently given up booze after a very heavy decade. Feeling worlds better in every mental and physical regard. Low alochol 0.5% beer was the ticket.
Seem to be a lot of comedians in the news recently with cirrhosis. Sean Hughes. Tony Slattery. Long term drinking impacts the mind as much as the body, and it's difficult to see.

Six weeks in, 4 inches gone off the waistline.
Cravings have been savage at times though. Especially for anything sweet. Anyone else find this and how did they deal with these?
Day 100 here. Feeling great and happy to have made it through the recent warm and sunny Bank Holiday weekend without drinking.Six weeks in, 4 inches gone off the waistline.

I went to see Tony Slattery last year as he's performing improv with a new group. I didn't recognise him at first. Really taken it's toll on him physically. Chatted to him afterwards and I suspect it's more than just physical! Lovely bloke but a bit erratic and mad.Seem to be a lot of comedians in the news recently with cirrhosis. Sean Hughes. It will definitely pass! I ate piles of ice cream at the start (I never used to eat it all!) and discovered a fascination for porridge with honey. It just petered out and I hardly bother at all only as a treat.Six weeks in, 4 inches gone off the waistline.

It’s completely normal as your body is craving the sugar from the alcohol. You’re doing great!
Struggling.
Have read the Alcohol explained book, and it does make a huge amount of sense....
And this is where Im at - do I *really* want to totally give up drinking ?
My current is no, not totally - but I DO need to get a handle on it.
Im thinking of trying to stay dry during the week unless out, and also plan to try some of the 0.0/0.5 beers to, I saw tonight that even San Miguel now do a 0.0....
