what does the bit where they took the hair from look like ? will that bit be bald now?
Technically yes but each hair extracted will be left by the tiniest white dot. When my hair grows back it'll be totally invisible.

And 1 week on.

It’s been extremely itchy, I’ve bruised heavily and had migraine like headaches for 2 days but finally today has been a better day.

Now is the time I can look forward to the results. Long wait it will be but looking forward to the next few months!

Had my surgery done Monday and Tuesday.

Must admit it wasn't massively pleasant- it was long, at times uncomfortable but I was happy to think it would all be worth it in the end.

And it will- now I have to wait up to 12 months for the result!

Here are a few pics. Beware some of these are gruesome.

That looks brutal, like a Sioux has tried to scalp you.

What was the surgeon's name?
Dr Vida at the Harley Street Hair Clinic

Really nice bloke and obviously passionate about the job. I no doubt paid a premium for the procedure but for something as important and prominent as my hair I really didn't want to take any chances.

What sort of price are you talking about and did they say about % chances of it lasting or for how long?

That looks amazing. I too am curious what longevity the surgeon predicts now. I read last week that Rooney is having to have his done again as its not worked long term.

The transplanted hair is taken from areas not affected by baldness, the issue is usually the rest still carries on falling out so in time you’ll get patches unless you do the whole lot in one go.

The transplanted hairs last for a lifetime apparently. I'm 37 and it is likely that I've done the majority of my balding... They strongly advise not to do it before your mid thirties for that very reason!

I'm fairly confident it should look great for a good number of years- easy to say now but I'll be less bothered in my late 50s onwards about my hair than right now.

Thanks.

Rooney is an odd case. If you look at his hair when he was a lad he was already receding then!

I think he is one of the few that needs to accept the procedure may not be for him. It doesn't work for everybody.

How many grafts is that, LD? Early days but it looks good, happy growing!

The hairs transplanted from the side/back of the head are typically resistant to male pattern baldness, which is caused by a derivative of testosterone, they're permanent.

I'm about to hit 37 years old- I've done 80% of the shedding I'm likely to have. I think I'll accept that in 10 years time I've lost 20% more hair... The main thing is that my hairline will still look good...
.
That stood out to me. I only started to go thin, or rather noticed it, way past 40. I thought I had escaped it but then it kicked in. If it was a widows peak type thing I wouldn't mind as they look pretty cool, but it's going in the stupidest way possible - only the middle of the hairline.

It's also massively much thinner everywhere even on the sides and back. I'm more interested in how things feel than look and I don't like the way it feels at all.

Yours looks like a fine job but I may wait for a magic pill anyway.

They already have a magic pill, just a potential side effect to it you need to risk not getting.

Which is why it's not as magic as what I'm in the market for. Potentially sending my hormones into meltdown to save a few strands up top isn't a bet worth taking for me.

Allegedly most of Hollywood take it at a young age. But easier to take on the risk when you are being paid millions to look good.

Bieber memorably asked why Prince William didn't.

They're probably filled with ground up monkey brains to make up for any potential problems.

The silly thing is that there are very few people whose look degrades after going bald. I think Prince William is one of those few. Billy Zane is another.
