End of week three and I've now lost.............nada! Gutted. I must admit tho I was a naughty boy over the weekend. I was so thirsty after a walk I drank 2 pints of weak orange squash, and over sat/sun nights 2 bottles of wine and several G & T's. I WILL make a better effort this week.

Hi all, another ketoer signing in. I have done this in the past and started again about a year ago - lost 14kg in 8 weeks;109kg down to 95, which was nice.
Over the last 3 months I've become a bit less disciplined and the flab is creeping back on, so am back in the saddle again. I spent last week tapering off the carbs and will be much more restrictive this week, probably around 25-30gm a day. I find low carb works for me - I have fewer cravings and I am less inclined to snack when I cut out bread, beer, rice and pasta etc. I still eat plenty of veg so get my carbs from that.

Breakfast is generally a cheese omelette with spinach and 'shrooms, lunch is generally chicken and veg with a cheesy cream sauce or similar and dinner is usually similar to the missus with more veg/no starch. I don't use the pee sticks but I can usually tell I am in ketosis by the strong smell of my pee.

It can be hard the first 2-4 weeks when the sugar cravings hit but if you push through that I find it easy to drip the weight off.

Started back on keto last Monday after a long break, finding it quite easy this time, haven’t had the usual flu like symptoms, haven’t even had the usual sugar cravings, but unusually my heart rate has increased. My resting heart rate is 55-60, but at the minute it’s 80-85, while not the end of the world I can feel it and am slightly concerned. Anyone any tips to get it back down to normal levels or is this something that is part of the process at times.

I doubt very much switching to keto would have that effect.
Check out other reasons first, or switch back and forth to 'prove' the association.

Agree. Anxiety, worried about something?

No, definitely not.
I’ve been on long term pain medication which was changed the week before so I’ll look into that.

Thanks for the replies.

Anyone partial to a nandos? First time back on the Keto wagon for a year or so... usually have the chicken thighs, and it comes up on my fitness pal as almost non existent carbs, so could combine this with some nice greens or something, but not sure if MFP is looking at just the chicken or the sauce... would’ve thought should be fine?

They’re only coated in the tiniest amount of sauce, I can’t imagine there’s even 10 grams of sauce on their chicken thighs

This was a side effect of keto on me. Went from 45-50 to 70-75 bpm.

I experience an increase if suddenly changing to chowing on high fat stuff from a standard carb diet, but it gradually drops back down to normal once 'fat adapted'. Also I find black coffee on a keto diet has some unpleasant side effects that it doesn't give me if eating a standard carb diet, one of which is an elevated heart rate.

Nandos website has all the info, it shows all the different sauces, just click the (i) below the item, then select the sauce.

Medium is the lowest carb sauce, 1.2g carbs per whole chicken.

https://www.nandos.co.uk/food/menu#mains

Salad, broccoli, avocado, mushrooms, feta and grilled halloumi are all low carb.

Did a beef bourgignon for sunday. Just threw it all in and on low for 5 hrs. Shedloads of gravy and now I've a beef stew for lunch.
Also I've done a whole chicken with lots of peppers, shrooms, a little onion with olive oil, 5 hrs, then youve chicken soup for lunches. Also cheap joints of beef, potatoes and carrots etc for the wife, non for me of course.

Nandos became a staple if I was out when I was on Keto - Boneless platter with coleslaw - yum!

Thanks for the advice re. Nando’s all. I had 4 chicken thighs, broccoli and a spoon of coleslaw in the end, very nice and filling, but did make a change from leaving there bloated and stuffed from carbs.

Day three now and feeling good. Diet hasn’t been great so far as only just managed to go shopping properly, but so far lots of eggs, chorizo, cheese, and greens. Tuna mayo for lunch today and a Cesar style salad tonight, chicken, bacon, avocado etc.

Lost a few lbs in water weight already, and it’s great that my usually swollen and bloated stomach has gone down.

Not had any bad cravings yet, but made some ‘fat bombs’ from almond butter and cacao last night just in case.

My usual vice is a slightly sweet coffee, so I am missing this. I had a flat white with almond milk from my favourite coffee shop yesterday, which was pretty good, I’m sure I’ll get used to black coffee with a bit of cream in at home again.

I find lettuce wraps quite filling for a quick lunchtime snack. Large lettuce leaf, smeared with mayo and any left over meat inside. 3 of those, yum.
