Do a 1-arm chin up
That reminds me! That's one of my fitness goals. Been training that for a while - still no luck.

Also, do a muscle up and a planche. Am properly training for both rather than once a fortnight. hehe

Edit: Last week, I saw two guys at the climbing centre doing one handed plyo pull ups. eek Imagine hanging from a hold with one hand (feet dangling). Pull upwards, launching yourself upwards, grab hold about a foot above your current hold.

I tried it and just dangled there like a fish on the end of a line. hehe

My aim is to keep up the running every morning. Managed to get to 5K without stopping before christmas which was my aim, now I think 10k before my next birthday. Then maybe a half marathon later in the year which would be a fantastic for a slob like me!

is that grabbing with the other arm, or the same one? there's a big difference - if you're swapping arms you can twist up and it's much easier.... easier than a full-range one-arm pull up in fact

When we say one arm pull up, do you mean while holding the pulling arm with the non pulling arm? Or should the non pulling arm hang completely free?

The spare arm is used for balance only, and cannot touch either the bar, or the other arm

Obviously not! Going from one to the other would be taking the piss. I wouldn't be in awe of that. I'm in awe of someone doing something with just one arm when I cannot even move upwards.

Currently residing at 15 1/2 st approx & around a 38" waist.
I'm aiming for a 34" waist & i'd like to be at 14st, i'm taking up a 12 week challenge starting monday.
Quit smoking (i currently only smoke 20 a week) but cut them all out, stop eating so much st!
Hopefully the 12 week challenge will do most of that in 1 go!

Recover from umbilical hernia operation, currently coming to end of week 2.

By the time I get to week 8 start on Stronglifts 5x5 programme with a couple of body weight exercises thrown in, dips and pull-ups.

Am currently at 75kg, would like to add 10kg mass by the end of the year if possible.

Diet plan is to eat lots of everything, with one shake a day of standard whey protein to aid growth.

Bryan.

It is hard, but totally possible. Pacing and training. I almost always start out way too fast, and never quite warm up right.

I did a 7:18 while a 20 per day smoker, cut out the daytime fags and just before christmas despite practically coughing up a lung I did a 7:19 (as a warm up before a boxercise class, so didn't give it everything)- following a training plan makes a huge difference (suggestions are either Petes Plan or one from the Concept2 site).

My aims are similar - sub 7 minute 2k by the end of January, primarily for the english indoor rowing event in Manchester.

Today should be my last few cigarettes, and I'll have to hit the gym well hard in the next couple of weeks.

Other aims - cycle into work way more, do a sub 19 minute 5k, get my 10k under 40 minutes, and hopefully then do over 15k in an hour. I'm having serious second thoughts about running a half marathon, my ankles have a bad habit of not taking to kindly to running.

Ok, I tried again trying to put a bit of a kip in the one handed pull up. Remember that fish on a line?
