Someone told me an 80kg man creates 136 drag if he was sat in a real boat on the water, so move the 1-10 lever to an appropriate amount above 136 that correlates to your weight, (or less if you lighter) to create a scenario that matches a real boat.
Sounds fair. I think taking that approach is good unless an individual is intending on doing testing in a more official arena. For this it would be wise to prepare for whatever drag factor the test will be at.Still impressed with times/splits you lads can do.
30minutes with splits about 2:10 - 2:15 /500m no issue. 500m at 1:45, rest then repeat a couple of times and i feel like someone has kicked me in the chest.
2minutes rowing, 1 minute rest as hard as possible nd i think i'm going to die.
Currently trying to slow my stroke rate, i feel so much more comfortable doing endurance at 24-28spm. I know i should be closer to 20-22spm but i just cannot find a rhythm with my breathing at that speed.

I'm in rehab from an ankle injury and physio said rowing is one of the best things to do in the gym. He said try to do 2000 metres in under 8 minutes
Bearing in mind it was the first time i've properly used a rower, I was fairly pleased with 7:45. Glutes and quads were on fire though, not sure I could have gone on for much longer.
I'm 26, 6ft and 78kg

Has anyone here tried the concept2 dynamic rower? How does it compare to the conventional c2 rowers?
It more closely mimics the feel of an actual boat, and won't let you get away with sloppy technique like a normal C2 would. Trying a regular C2 but on sliders will have a similar effect. It forces you to maintain a proper rhythm and to keep your hands moving. Non rowers will likely struggle with it if they have the opportunity to use one. I don't think many clubs use them as they aren't used for testing.CDC said:

Did it in a smidge under 47:30, going to try again tomorrow and aiming for a sub 45min time.
And i am one belt hole down on where i started after xmas so January has gone pretty well.

First ever go of 2k on the Concept 2 and managed 7.43 and this was at the end of an hour in the gym. I only joined the gym a week ago but I have a decent level of fitness through circuit training, cycling and some weight training. After reading through some posts I'm quite happy with that and it now gives me a target to aim for.
My stats are 29y/o, 6"2 and 82kgs.

I'm a swimmer but chuck in the odd C2 painfest from time to time. Just shy of 7mins at the mo but reckon I can break the 7 min marker. I'm getting a bit old now (38) but my endurance has improved. I can hit 14k in an hour. Don't know if that's much good. My bro, has hit sub 6.30 but has recently slimmed off his bulk for his ultra-marathon stuff. Nut!
Anyone else noticed endurance improvement with age?

Every time this thread pops up it's a constant reminder of what a weak failure I am.
It's been well over a year since I stated in here that I wanted to go sub 7 mins, and I still haven't done it, not through lack of trying either, I'm down from 7:30s to hovering about 7:10 but I can actually only hit that once a fortnight or so when the moon is in the right position and all other factors fall into place, on most days in the gym I'm still around 7:30 or I just get off after 1500m because I can't stand the pain in buttocks. But my 10k runs have tumbled from 55mins to near 40mins in the same period, so go figure, my technique must be ste.
Never mind.

Although i have recently started running so i am now doing between 2-5k on the running machine and finishing off with either a 2k or 5k row. My times are a little better but i still struggle to break 8 minutes for the 2k.
I started rowing again recently with this in mind, but did too much on my lower back; deads, hypers and rowing and my erector spinae went, 'No!'
Can't risk having more time off training so my training now revolves around running until after May. I'd still like to row once a week, just not sure how to fit it in.

Yay a rowing thread!
I'm new to rowing, having signed up to the An Ras Mor (Ocean to City) race in Cork at the end of May (in a Cornish Pilot gig so fixed seat). It's a 28km distance so I'm not looking for pure power over the 2k but it's nice to join a related thread at least!
I've not actually done a 2k yet but I doubt I'd be able to pull a sub-8 minute as I'm very unfit still! Other accepted distance times recorded as below:
5k - 21:39
10k - 49:57
I am still targeting a sub-20 minute 5k time by the end of May but that seems pretty far off currently! I did a 15km in 1:11:23 the other day but frankly my arse was numb by the end of it so I've invested in the little concept 2 seat padding to see if that will improve matters!
34, 178cm and 87kg (See told you I was unfit!)
