Seems Cancer is going to take my dad.
Diagnosed with prostate cancer in October 19, finished chemo in February last year but due to Covid didn't have any radiotherapy. Move forward to October last year and he caught Covid which put him in hospital before Christmas but during a scan they spotted some spots on his Liver.
He went back into hospital a few weeks ago as he was getting increasingly weak that was initially put down to Long Covid however following further scans show that the cancer had spread significantly. They discharged him on Monday but have given him a Do Not Resuscitate.
He's home but getting increasingly weak. They haven't actually told us how long he's got but it really doesn't seem like it's going to be long.
I'd come around to the thought that this Christmas was going to be the last Christmas I'd have with him but now it's only potentially a matter of weeks it's a different matter.

To suggest his symptoms were Long Covid suggests he previously had Covid confirmed ?
I ask as my wife has heart and lunch damage from Covid and is still having issues a year forward.
You'll be surprised how long people live with cancer having been told a short timeframe.
May i ask what age bracket your Dad is in and what type of cancer he has?

Prostate cancer and 67. He passed away this morning.

67 is no age at all. Assume he had stage 4 when diagnosed? Please do ensure you go for testing for prostate cancer from age 40 onwards as there is an increased chance you too might get it.
Sad news.
I didn't get to find out a stage when he was diagnosed and not aware if they told my Dad, however from reading up on it recently it would have been classed as advanced as it has metastatised and made it into a node(s).Sad news.
Spoke to the doctor this morning and it seems it had spread much more than previously thought and was already significant involvement in his liver. It appears was much more aggressive than I had thought.
I'm going to be very much at risk, my mum had breast cancer, my grandad died of bowel cancer and my blood grandmother died with a brain tumor when my dad was young so I'll certainly be getting checked out.
Thank you all for your messages too.

Just back from the oncologist with MIL
Confirmed multiple brain tumors, not strong enough for treatment. So discharged, with tablets to help control seizures.
24hrs now to digest the info MIL is 88, and deteriorating rapidly. Movement is now limited, shaky, confused, memory problems, appetite poor, panicky and tears.Confirmed multiple brain tumors, not strong enough for treatment. So discharged, with tablets to help control seizures.
She lives on her own, Mrs CC has been spending, more and more time with her over the last few weeks. Companionship, organising and getting her out walking whenever possible.
Trying to keep everything as normal as possible, routines will have to change as she deteriorates, and that's accelerating.
We've been told we should get a visit from a district nurse, then palliative care when required. We need to talking to someone about what to expect and when and how to react as things progress.
We've space for her to move into our house as required but don't want to rush or upset her current routine.
Sorry to hear that, I posted here a while ago about my friend that had a brain tumour, his decline was very rapid indeed
In the end he was watching TV and said he just needed to turn on his side for a minute, then muttered he didn't think he'd make it and that was that two to three weeks after diagnosis.Shockingly quick but I suppose it has to be better than going downhill over months.
Forgive me a moment of self indulgence but you made me think of him. I remember a conversation we had when he told me he had a brain tumour and I told him how sorry I was. He said don't be sorry for me all our stories come to an end and this is how mine ends. It is what it is, think of me when the sun is on your face in a pub beer garden or you see a pretty girl (he was a ladies man)

Thank you CC... both my best friend aged 59 and my sister aged 57 were diagnosed stage 4 (bowel & breast respectively) at the weekend. They both have multiple lesions in their livers too. This is a beautiful verse. I will keep it close to me. Zedboy said:

His legacy is the Heart of England Forest, of which I'm a proud volunteer.

So sorry to hear this. Absolutely no ages to be hit with this news.
At 55 I’m jacking it all in and heading off to the beach

What I did find a little strange considering everything I've done for them recently was that the son never even knocked on my mothers door to say hello, or to pass on any thanks etc. I was at my mothers the whole time.
If that had been me, I'd have knocked on the door to ask her to pass on my thanks for everything. Whilst I don't do it for thanks, you would think that would be a natural reaction for looking after his dad. If roles were reversed, I'd have gone round to say thank you. Maybe he doesn't know?? Regardless, I found it a tad strange.
Nowt so strange as folk

Your right.
My mrs had a hairdressers in next little village/area along
Everyone knew and knows her.
When she had the shop there was at least ten old dears she regularly did their hair for.
As time drew on she’s selflessly did all sorts for them.
From taking them to hospital appts, recommending estate agents, shopping, errands, checked in on them when they are poorly,
Intervened when granddaughters are skimming their account, paid bills got shopping, done their hair, when they were too il to come in her salon.
Found gardeners, picked them up and took them back home after their hair appointment.
You name it she’s done it.
It boiled my piss so much.
I’d ask her to do an errand she would pull her face because it interferes with Doris needing taking to get her false teeth.
The end result was the older they all got
The more a distant granddaughter would appear on the scene.
One in particular was a very posh old lady.
Ended up with the shakes and popped off.
Then her husband was on deaths door
A daughter appears out of nowhere
Another one she did errands for she popped off with two disabled daughters she did errands for as well
Not a thanks or anything.
Another one her husband popped off she’s housebound and does errands for, then a son is there first time ever house is sold and she’s gone back to Ireland and dead three months later.
Honestly these are people she’s known since she was a child.
She doesn’t want anything but it annoys me she gives all her time to them doesn’t get any petrol money for the hospital csr park fees.
Easily ten have popped off
Never left her a carrot for her trouble

My nieces and nephews are hovering around my mother as she’s now in her mid 80’s and told them she has included them in her will. They don’t know to what degree but one last year had the cheek to ask for 30k saying “ can I have my inheritance early Nan”.
I hope she gets £2.50 when mum goes . Bloody cheek
My seemingly healthy, non-smoking, rarely-drinking (& quite beautiful) wife, got a blood clot (& pneumonia) end of last year.
Friday just gone we found out what probably caused it. Thym1c Carc1noma. No surgical options for her & and can't be 'cured'. Awaiting a PET scan to learn what we're looking at in terms of managing it. She's 43. I'm a rock when I'm with her (kids not told until we've had the scan), I'm a wreck otherwise.
