Thanks guys smile the scan took place yesterday and I’m now in a side ward of the local hospital. Been on iv fluids since yesterday and am expecting a feeding tube to be inserted today.

I think things have happened so quickly that I haven’t really had time to think about the cancer. There is nothing i can do and I am in the doctor’s hands as to whether I can be cured or not.
I have put my affairs in order as much as possible. Monday was getting the figures for my dog walking: pet sitting business sorted for next years tax assessment. There is still lots of other things I should have done but I don’t expect to die just yet.

It's a trite thing to say condor, but chin up. A positive mind-set can only help and, whatever the imminent news, try and make the most of each moment. It's hard to think of anything more useful to say, but we'll all be rooting for you.

Not good news, the tumour is now too large to cut out and will be palliative care now for me. I currently have a nose feeding tube in and that will need to change to a stomach feeding tube before I can leave hospital.

Rough. It’s amazing how quick this tumour has grown. It’s from the back of my nose down to the voice box. I’m hoping to be able to ask Addenbrookes for a 2nd opinion especially re radiotherapy options. There is the view that radiotherapy could make the tumour more angry and really shorten what short time I have left, rather than it reduce the size of the tumour. Last night I was given iv steroids and strong antibiotics which made me really ill. Lots of white foaming mouth gloop. As I can’t swallow spent all the time trying to rinse my mouth out. Still struggling with it this morning. Have refused steroid injection this morning and wait to see the doctor who thought this medication was a good thing.

It sounds like there's little downside to being a bit stubborn/demanding/difficult with your doctors - e.g."Look, doc, you may have written me off but I don't feel quite ready to go, and I'd like to make sure I've explored all the potential avenues for treatment and that I understand why each one is not an option."

There's a balance to be struck between putting some pressure on them to do their job properly versus pissing them off, to be sure. But you're the one in the hotseat, so to speak, so I think you're entitled to push things a little bit. I'd say that the trick is to be firm with them without lashing out or taking any anger/frustration you might be feeling out on them.

Refusing the steroid injection was a big mistake. This afternoon my airway swelled closed and I struggled to breathe. Fortunately the cancer team were around and literally saved my life, took nearly an hour to settle but am starting to get breathless again now

I hope so too.

In this week's Surgeons at the Edge of Life program on BBC 2, it showed a cancer operation I'm guessing is quite close to the situation Condor is in. It is not for the faint hearted or squeamish so it brought home to me just what a horrendous situation he's in.
