Fair play, but just a heads up, any 2000m time where you can row more than 2000m is not a time. When I did my 'best over' , at 100m to go I was starting to lose composure and just shut my eyes and rowed for as long as I could. I've since failed 2000m attempts for blowing up too soon. I would suggest a determined novice male could break 8 minutes. Try rowing at 2min/500m pace and see how you feel.

As an aside , I am thinking of a motivation challenge / new years resolution.
Who would join me in a 1,000,000m in a year challenge ?
For 2016 that would be 2732.24m per day, so call it 2750m a day average.

Ooo... Just discovered this thread and I'm tempted to join you on that. Doing some quick numbers I'd guess 2 x 60" sessions a week should add up over a year and would allow for holidays etcWho would join me in a 1,000,000m in a year challenge ?

Well it's not particularly scientific - but what HR/stroke rate are you doing the 5k at? If you're hitting 2:00/500m then I'd guess at maybe 8s slower split for 60" based on what I manage for 5k vs 60" (although 5k wasn't particularly flat out). 2:08 split would give you 14063m over an hour. The aim of 2750/day is 19250m a week. So if you rack up 2 x 60" sessions a week you're hitting just over 28k a week which is c.36 weeks of training giving you 16 weeks of holiday/injury/illness time (for me it's going to be a bit less for a number of reasons/excuses....). If you don't have a HRM to work out if you're overdoing it or not pace wise best bet is to rate cap it to 20 and cover up the monitor to battle the psychological numbers to work out what pace will work.I'm thinking of doing my sessions as say 3000m / 5000m at 2min/500m pace.

I have the C2 in the garage - so no excuse not to go on it every day... although that's not always been the case. I'll try a 2:08 session tomorrow morning and see how 'far' I can go. I tend to get tunnel vision and the pace increases, sometimes it's hard to hold back. Maybe covering the display and having music or a film on would help. Rate cap is the important part - no more than 20 - cover the display or close your eyes and focus on technique. TBH what are you trying to achieve by doing 1000000m? I know it's a nice target to set ourselves over the year but you could rack up 2750m in a day doing 6x500m interval training but you'll be reeling from the lactic work and wouldn't sustain it every day and recovery will be an issue. Or are you looking to improve fitness/fat loss in which case the fewer but longer pieces being strict with rate cap/HR will be more achievable/sustainable IMO but perhaps some more seasoned indoor rowers can comment.Thats about the same rate as me.

Easy just 993,000m to go How did it feel? If done right you shouldn't be reeling like after a 2k (in fact far from it) and might give you an idea of how much further you can push within 30" or go for longer.Managed just under 7000m.
Technically it's not 2016 yet unless you want to set the start date to today - or do a couple more pieces to see what kind of pace/rate is comfortable. Any other takers for the challenge?

I suspect rate 30 for 30" and 6700m is just not very efficient and/or your technique can't be great... Almost certainly. On a well maintained erg, i.e. one that has had the dust vacuumed out of it on a regular basis, you should be around 4.The setting is not a measure of your manhood, it's an indication of gearing. Chris Froome doesn't win the TdF in the top gear, top rowers don't use the 10 setting on the erg for anything other than a few power stroke exercises.
Do your back a favour, reduce the drag factor and take a break every 30 mins or so.
It is one in a gym so I don't know how well looked after it is. I will select drag factor on the menu and adjust the resistance until it is about at the 130-140 mark. According to C2, a brand new one should be about 90-100 at 1 and 210-220 at 10. I suspect it probably doesn't get dusted much in that case.
