I made a Sausage and Cabbage casserole last night. Just eaten and was so good, definitely something for this time of year. I used this recipe, though used Cheddar not Mozzarella. https://peaceloveandlowcarb.com/cheesy-smoked-saus...

Also tried the Swede fries the other night. I really don’t like Swede but they weren’t too bad as coated in Paprika, Salt and Pepper. Good for a low carb fix. (Before they went in the oven)

Details aside, it just sounds like you are still shedding water weight. It should taper off.

Made some Scones this evening for a change. Used this recipe https://sugarfreelondoner.com/grain-free-english-s... and had with Cream. Actually surprisingly better than I thought they’d be. I halved the recipe (made three) so not to be tempted to eat more than one but there’d be no need as very filling. Recipe states 4.9g carbs per Scone. I’m thinking of trying this again but replacing the sweetener with Cheese and topping with more Cheese.

Those look interesting, though I suspect I don't miss tea and scones enough to make them. More likely a Fat Head Pizza for me, though I must try Oopsie bread at some point.

Do any of you know of a keto friendly dried milk for coffee? Ideally lactose free. I'm finding as I'm getting older that I'm not really enjoying black coffee so much these days and enjoy it with a bit of 'white' in it to take the edge off. I don't want to get into the habit of having fresh milk in the house again. I looked at the ingredients of CoffeeMate and instantly returned it to the shelf! hehe

I know the default answer is coconut milk but that isn't easily accessible and I would prefer a dried version.

The Alpro zero sugar soya milk is virtually zero carbs and lasts for ages.

I was just looking at that very thing on Tesco groceries website as it happens! I must be blind but I've never seen any of those coconut milks in my Tesco unless I'm looking in the wrong place? I would assume they're in the cabinets next to the fresh milk (?)

All the dried milk options I've looked at are rammed with carbs and sugars. frown

Most alternative milks are with the long life milks. There are some types of alternative milks in the ‘freefrom’ fridge but they don’t last as long and taste the same. My wife (non-Keto) loves the ‘barista’ alternative milks in her coffee. You’ll probably need to try a couple until you find the right one for you.

Cheers. Yeah I'll have a look today and see what I can find. It's only a smaller size supermarket in my town, not a big "Extra" one, so the range is limited to the more popular stock lines and these alternative milks might not be stocked at mine.

I'm back on Keto again - I have been in ketosis a few times in the past, usually for a few months then I miss beer and pizza too much. I've been avoiding processed carbs for the last 2.5 weeks and have dropped 4kg. I'd like to lose another 10 by the the end of the year.

I'm not being as strict as I have been in the past counting carbs etc, just avoiding food that I know makes me put on weight. Mostly I am having omelette for breakfast, soup for lunch and a small snack in the evening, so it hasn't been too difficult. I will avoid booze for a couple of months too.

What are you using the milk for? Have you tried double cream, Coconut milk, Bullit Coffee?

Re Cauliflower I’ve never been a fan until recently. Tossed in a little olive oil, choice of spice/salt/pepper and Parmesan then roasted. It’s delicious (also with Broccoli) other than that have used to make pizza base (dry it out a lot), and Cauliflower Cheese. Probably the only three ways I like it if I’m honest.

Putting in black coffee. Used to use double cream but it gives me horrendous gut rot these days. I was in Tesco a short while ago and found the Alpro coconut milk 1L cartons. They didn't have the unsweetened one, but they did have the 'normal' one which is lowish on carbs at 3.3 g. Decided to give it a try. Tastes OK in coffee but it's watery so needs more adding than milk to be effective. Jury still out as I've only just finished my first cup smile .

Cut cauliflower into thick "steaks" and fry them in butter, add seasoning of choice - they can take a lot of chilli, paprika or cayenne. They come out fabulously.

I have just got back on the keto wagon (been just doing low carb for ages) thanks to this thread found I wasn't eating nearly enough protein but at over a week in and despite close to net zero carbs I've only lost just over 1 lb, where am i going wrong?

no breakfast, lunch is as much raw spinach as i can manage with a couple of boiled eggs and some cheese and mayo to help the spinach. Dinner is meat (chicken/pork/meatballs) and green veg (Brussels/Broccoli/Asparagus/cauliflower) cooked with butter usually. I have three coffees with full fat milk and a sweetener (Xylitol at the moment until it runs out) and then three or four pints of sugar free squash. all eating is done between 12 noon and 8pm with no snacking.

thoughts?

OK, so this diet sounds counter intuitive. I am not criticising, don't know enough, merely asking from an open minded perspective. Amy diet that cuts out hunger and loses weight sounds pretty good. What's the steps with cholesterol with eating so much fatty/oily foods. I follow a vegan diet, can you/should you attempt keto on this kind of diet. I already drink a lot of coconut milk with my shakes etc, and love the coconut yoghurts etc. I'm assuming one would cut out potatoes etc and concentrate on green, fibrous veg, oily foods like nuts and avocado etc, which I already eat a lot of, and restrict ones calories in the usual way?

I do vegan Keto quite often and have done for years. It’s tough cos’ of the limited choice of foods but it’s possible to be healthy and enjoy the food if you put the effort in. Happy to share recipes. I’ve been eating vegan for 7 years.

Thanks man, been eating vegan for about four years, although not wholly. I eat eggs from a farm where I see the hens and ducks wandering around the year during the day, mates rates eggs..a sheepdog herds them up at night time!! And I eat honey. But that it, no other 'cheats'.

What about cholesterol etc...though?
