Anyone read Mark Sisson's latest; The Keto Reset Diet?
I haven't. I was most impressed with Mark on Joe's show.
He himself has around 150g of carbs a day, which seems doable for life.
In this book, he says his max is 150g, over the last five years he estimates he's averaged 60-70g/day (IIRC, can't find it now).

You may find this Robb Wolf podcast interesting, with Nora Gedgaudas of Primal Body, Primal Mind fame: podcast page.

I can't quite remember how he phrased, but in my mind it seems like it's a daily thing...I'm gonna have to try and find it in that 3 hour podcast now. biggrin
I'll watch that one too...currently gonna go on Joe and Steve Maxwell, just got Keith Weber's kb routines off Joe as well.

Anyone else following Mark Bell (power lifter) and his brother Chris Bell (famed director - Bigger Stronger Faster) they are doing some great posts about Keto and lots of information from them.

not wanting to sift through the thread but..

drinking alcohol on keto/paleo. anyone do it? from what I've read you're better off drinking spirits instead of beer/cider/alcopops. I'm quite interested in that as I usually might have 3-4 beers (sometimes almost daily). so could swap it for whisky, vodka, etc.. (not bourbon). would drink it neat, or with ice or tonic water.

of course i know there's more to things in dieting (and more). but i'm wondering if there's anyone here that's switched from drinking beer to spirits instead.

I did have a bried phase where i did this and it did feel better as beer is less bloating.

Distilled spirits have zero impact on my blood glucose. On that basis I would say that they don’t directly impact your ability to stay in ketosis. I suspect it’s a lot more complicated than though with regard to liver function and other associated factors smile

ETA. I don’t touch alcohol these days, and find the best benefit is never making any bad eating decisions.

Seem to remember reading alcohol is a poison, so kidneys prioritise removing the toxin. While it's doing that it can't process fat, insulin, etc.

Sissons covers this, booze is ethanol, which is always gonna be a problem for thr human body, he himself enjoys a paleo wine from time to time.

Thinking about starting the carnivore diet seems to be getting fantastic results http://meatheals.com/

Seems very similar to Keto which I like but removes veggies which I've always hated to be fair eating meat for every meat only seems very tempting to me.

Do it, and take regular bloodwork to see what happens.

I've never taken bloodwork every so wouldn't know where to start. Dr Shawn Baker was interviewed by Rob Wolf on his podcast and published all of his bloodwork if it's of interest to you.

I watched Baker on Joe Rogan podcast, at that tome he wasn't interested in bloodwork, but if that's changed I'll take a look

Will do for thanks for sharing, the problem is for every diet I research I can find many articles both supporting and discouraging the very same diet for different reasons.

This is the dilemma, and is why personal bloodwork will let you know if you're doing the right thing or not.

What and how would you get tested?

I'd go to the doctor and say I'm concerned about diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure...anything else Baker might have mentioned in his.
Then I think you just go to your walk in centre and get them done.

I think there's a lot more than that they are looking for in blood work. Blood pressure and blood glucose I test at home never had my cholesterol checked I think I'll go and ask if they'll test me.

As I understand it with phlebotomy, generally speaking they will test for whatever the GP has requested. I’m sure there’s standard batches of tests for certain conditions of course.
