Does anyone know an Anti Covid vaxxer?
Discussion
I reckon my chances of dying of COVID are fairly slim. Even catching it is unlikely. I have never used a mask or hand sanitiser, and I am still fine. And I am not old or fat.
The vaccine has side effects, ranging from sore arm, through symptoms just like the virus itself, right through to death. People will have died after having reactions to the vaccine. Likely very few, but they won't ever publish the numbers. Just like they don't ever give the real number of healthy people who have died OF the virus (not many) rather than WITH the virus (plenty).
If COVID was a real problem, then I would have expected lots of famous young, fit people to have died from it. But I think we have had Eddie Large and Tim Brooke-Taylor, both in their late 70s.
I don't want a sore arm. Or COVID-like symptoms. Or worse.
And I really don't want to queue up for the jab with a herd of unhealthy people, or come into contact with a health worker who's been vaccinating the sick for weeks on end. If there is one place you are going to catch the virus, it's at the hospital.
The vaccine development has been rushed through for political reasons. If it was safe, why would they need to prevent you suing the drug companies if/when it turns out to be defective?
Worst case the vaccine doesn't work and I miss nothing (other than the sore arm, etc). And if it is effective, and everyone else has it, then I still come out ahead of the game.

I'm a healthcare professional. I frequent twitter for the usual multitude of reasons but find the number and of ferocity anti covid vaxxers/covid deniers really quite alarming.
I'm sure some of these accounts are bots and a few just odd balls.
But I don't know anyone, at least anongst my circle or who would admit at least.
Really curious to see is there anyone on this forum who thinks its all a hoax or over response or does anyone know someone well. What has been their logic? Have they changed their mind or doubled down?
I don't want to get into heated arguments, though this is PH afterall, but at least I assume that most posters here are actual people.
I don't think it is a hoax although if you are below 70 + reasonably fit and healthy then imho it is a low risk "thing"; it is fact that the very vast majority of deaths (4 of 5) are " old people". I'm sure some of these accounts are bots and a few just odd balls.

Vaccine rejection in Europe is equally fascinating and scary. Social media is a factor.
Don’t the Germans (or some of them anyway) consider the AZ vaccine a ‘second class’ vaccine or something? Think I saw something in the news about it.Difficult said:

Quite a few people did die when the vaccines started being given in US and Norway, I’ve heard of reports in France, Spain, India and U.K. but don’t know how true they are. In percentage terms the numbers are low, but the risk is higher when older. If I was advanced in years or in Ill health I would probably be one of the last to take my vaccine once more information is known. As it is I will likely take mine if offered.

Define ‘Covid anti-vaxxer’?
I suspect that the seriousness of Coronavirus has been exaggerated to a degree and I’m in no rush to get vaccinated, preferring instead to wait as long as possible to see what, if any, long term health implications there are.
Whether that makes me cynical, cautious, prudent or just a plain old nutter is a matter of personal opinion I guess.

I don’t know of any who won’t have it. But I am lucky to have a group of normal well educated friends and family. It’s the Facebook reading mouth breathers that love to spin a conspiracy theory.
I thought I would fall out with my kids. Daughter is a hospital pharmacist and was saying "I can't believe that's safe to approve it so quickly"
Then one day in December, she says " oh by the way I had the Pfizer vaccine today. They had some spare st the end off the day, and were phoning all departments, so i asked all my less fit and healthy and older colleagues, and they'd all had it when I was on my days off, and so i thought well if these pharmacists with 35 years experience have had it, I really think I should too"
Son, has s masters in Chemistry, and spent the first 2 years of his career in drug discovery in the cancer field, before going to an accountancy film as a head trainee. He pretty much said "I don't understand how they can do this so fast" but then a week later was saying "I've been talking to my partner, and she's Just had the Pfizer vaccine today. I'm really relieved"
His partner works in the blood testing lab at a local hospital and has a suppressed immune system, and a masters in microbiology.

So you saying that you are happy that 20% aren't old people ? And that's a risk you are happy with? TX.
I feel the urge to suggest something about your character, but as I say to all the trolls,
I'll be crossing the bridge next Tuesday. Will I see you there ?

And proud to be selfish, just as a bonus.
The government and media have exaggerated the risks of covid so much that it has killed trust for a lot of people. They have also covered up all reports of anyone who’s had a bad reaction to the vaccine. Plus censored any scientists who had different views about the way they were handling it. Is is any wonder some people are sceptical about the vaccine? If they’d been clear and honest about covid rather than inflating figures and exaggerating everything I think people would trust them more. As it is the terrified are queuing up and the people who don’t like being bullstted are more sceptical about whether it is really needed.

Ignore the name calling from the cheap seats. Lots about this obviously stinks and has done since last March. Our own government is using emotional blackmail to push a vaccine against a virus that is harmless to most poeple. Matt Handcock is on TV openly crying with laughter at the script he's been given. And we're supposed to not notice these things and do what we're told.I suspect that the seriousness of Coronavirus has been exaggerated to a degree and I’m in no rush to get vaccinated, preferring instead to wait as long as possible to see what, if any, long term health implications there are.

The irony in your post is off the scale. Myself for sure. I don't feel threated enough by this over blown respiratory illness to consider it worthwhile taking a vaccine, same with the flu.
If I had friends or family who had died of this, or saw people dropping dead in the street like China was showing us a year ago then I may have a different opinion.
Having had an adverse reaction to medication in the past, I'm in no rush to pump myself full of anything I don't absolutely need.

I totally get caution with the vaccine. When it comes to the seasonal flu vaccine, myself and colleagues openly admit that short term side effects put us off. I've not had flu vaccine in years. When I have, it has resulted in a bad flu symptoms. My parents have flu vaccine for years and have been fine. The flu vaccine however is more to protect those vulnerable to it from catching it, rather than with the COVID herd immunity goal.
What do I make of deaths reported? Deaths from side effects or anyone soon after vaccination will be investigated. But we have now vaccinated 19,000,000 plus and we aren't hearing that there have been loads of deaths. To put it perspective 1% mortality from vaccination would be 190,000 people. A risk of death of 0.1% would be 19,000 in less than three months. We've all seen how enept our government is but your talking some huge conspiracy if you think they and we medics could cover that up.
I've read those links regarding care home deaths. Most seem like unfortunate outbreaks of covid before vaccine taken effect. We hypothesise the frail with poor inmune systems won't mount the same response and hence the vaccine is less effective.
I think the poster whose children changed minds is encouraging, it shows a normal apprehension that through advice has been addressed.
Again though COVID it is relatively harmless to most people, its fatal to a significant proportion. Far more harmful than the vaccine.
I really struggle to see the argument that it has been over blown. There is some spin on reporting and I get frustrated by the poorly written headlines. I.e "cases in England drop in February" published six weeks after lockdown like its some surprise.
Queuing up with sick people to get vaccine. Well yes but if you socially distance or queue outside all is fine. Limiting indoor exposure is vital in this.
Comments about not important as no celebs, well if your a celeb your much less likely to catch it because you probably live in a big house and don't use the bus... its a disease of the poor because they can't escape it.
