How heavy are the dumbbells I mean?

I reckon if you could get a pull up bar and looked at your diet you would see results quite quickly with a calisthenics type program. You would need to think about how to effectively work your legs but there are lots of guys with similar desires as you who make it work.

If you think of exercises in broad categories you have pulling, pushing, legs, core and isolation. Without a pull up bar you will be missing pulling exercises, with a pull up bar you can do everything.

An ab wheel would be a bonus, and very cheap.

I've set myself some modest strength/Fitness goals to reach and then maintain - all a multiple of my body weight.

Squat x 1.5
Deadlift x 2.0
Bench Press x 1.0
Strict Overhead Press x 0.6
Bent Over Row x 1.0

10km/6miles - under 60 minutes.

Nothing crazy but just turned 50, so if can get to and keep on top of these, I should keep myself in reasonable shape.

The running is fine and I hit my first strength one today on Deadlift. Managed the x2 for 3 reps - was only going for one but it felt quite comfortable so did two more. That was enough for today.

A bit away on the others but getting there slowly - overhead press is miles away.

Deadlifts up to a comfy 235kg... Starting to grease the groove a little now. Still not a touch on where I was but it's going in the right direction.

Followed by 3 X 10... 180kg, 190kg, 190kg

Walking lunges 3 X 20 at 70kg

Seated row 4 X 8

That's about the level I would like to get back to. Good work man. If I could get back to 250kg I would be delighted

which'll mean three days.

190x10 for deads is good. I wasn't gonna comment because trying to hit goals on here was what helped me hurt myself before, but I ain't going for big singles anymore. It conflicts with too much else of what I want to do, but getting my current deads of 4x8 up to 190ish seems like a doable goal to aim for.

Second gym workout since holiday, chest and shoulders, feels weird to be back, everything feels heavy! Only gained 3/4 pounds of weight during holiday which is good, climbing over 10,000ft on the bike helped. In other news my 911 drives beautifully with its brand new engine.

Decent one today, with a 190kg bench single and a bunch of pumpy stuff. Whole week has been a kinda mess about/test week.

Tuesday is my operation day, so I've been seeing what I can do in the gym without engaging my abs........Nothing heavy it seems! Even isolation stuff I've been finding involves core tensing to some degree as soon as you get a little heavy. However, I can make lighter stuff pretty hard by adjusting tempo, and being super strict. I'm hoping this new/novel stimulus will actually lead to a little growth, but that's very wishful thinking.

I've been told not to go to the gym for 3 months, but that's not happening.....

Not posted much last few weeks, not much to post about!
Down to 141kg bodyweight and seem to be holding size this time! TRT having a major part I'd imagine.
Been nice having people saying I'm looking bigger but I've lost 9kg now biggrin

Been lifting heavy but doing a lot of technique work as well for when I've done dieting to try and stay injury free.
Trying mobility warm ups etc.

44kg x8 dumbbell hammer curl PB yesterday keeping it strict, didn't go past strict ish as I've a bet on with the gym for heavier dumbbells if I can hit 12 reps laugh
A few weeks training it and I think I can nail that.

Actually quite nice not having to train as intensely for something specific, joints don't ache as much laugh
Hopefully when everything is done though, I can stay relatively injury free and actually get to pro level within 3 years time (before I'm 30).

Terrible hotel gym with small plates results in a PR.
Beltless 1 inch deficit deadlift - 170kg.

PR because I’ve never done deficit deadlifts. I don’t have the mobility to get into position for them, so my form is terrible. I bet my spinal erectors hurt later.

All the best for your procedure Ben. I bet the hardest part will be staying away from the iron smile

Thanks man. My gym is closed this week for a refurb, but this also means there’s a bunch of new kit I won’t be able to play with for a while. I have a plan though, kinda- will just have to see how it goes though. And I’ll try my best to be sensible.... mostly.... biggrin

I second that. Best of luck, Ben.

And do see it as a challenge of will to stay out of the gym as long as you possibly can. It will be less than you are advised but more than you want.
