On top of the usual symptoms I also get a dodgy stomach when my hay fever is particularly bad... bloating, stomach ache and other unpleasantness.

Apparently it is a thing and the gastro-intestinal tract can produce a histamine reaction to pollen as well as the respiratory tract.

First day on Allevia today and it seems to be working. Haven't had any symptoms since 9:00ish. Took the pill at 6:30 with my breakfast.

I got some last weekend from Amazon at £4 a pack. Feeling absolutely splendid at the moment after taking 2 of these a day and also 2 piriteze a day as well, all at different times. The most respite I’ve had in years, especially after such a rough weekend last weekend.

I've never tried it myself, but apparently a teaspoon of local honey a day works.

Could be an old wives tale though.

Ceritizine normally works for me but today I’m struggling.
Itchy eyes and runny nose. Roof of mouth also slightly sore.

Tempted to take another but packet says one a day. ,,

To the OP, sorry for thread hijack but posting here as there are lots of helpful replies.

Still on cetirizine which gets me through the day. I take this in the morning and it takes about 30 mins or so for it to kick in.

However the blocked nose during night time is keeping me awake.
I wake up feeling tired and also feeling a bit dazed. Not sure if it’s lack of proper sleep or effect of taking cetirizine daily?

I sometimes have a beer or two in the evening, is this a bad idea?
Thinking of trying fexofanadine but not sure if it will have worse side effects for me.
My hay fever is definitely worse the day after drinking - even just 1 beer with dinner.

Try Becodefence nasal spray before going to bed and a few times during the day. It coats your nostrils with a gel and works wonders for me when I feel symtpoms coming on.

Also, Fexonedine was a life saver for me. I'd tried every other prescription and non-prescription pill under the sun and still found myself having to lock myself in a dark room most days throughout June. Now I use Fexofenedine hay fever is nothing more that a slight annoyance for me most year.

I relented and phoned the doctors today to try and get something stronger. I already pop citirizine like sweets and they hardly work now. Bought some Allevia (Fexofenadine) and they seem better but when out and about, only lasts about an hour. I have the beconase spray which also helps but isn't a fix. The docs couldn't give me much other than which I have. Said I cycle and they suggested a mask. In this heat I'd die if I did.

As for the bloating, lots of this stuff is lactose based and I'm lactose intolerant. So whereas before I may get away with dairy now and again, during hayfever season I can forget it.

I’ve been taking fexofenadine for many years (maybe more than 20) since it first came out. It’s excellent but I still find I get itchy eyes so use optichrom drops twice a day and sometimes beconase on bad days.

I’m a massive fan of fexofenadine - it was the only thing that managed to help.

I did have kenalog one year (before fexofenadine was available) which was like switching a light off - amazing but apparently not very good in the long term.

Persevered with loratadine and cetirizien for years but have never done anything for me.

On the back of this thread have been on Fexofenadine all week which equally appears useless so booked in for the kenalog Jab next week.

Fingers crossed.

For anyone struggling with their breathing with hay-fever, I was prescribed a steroid based inhaler which seems to be working. Working in combo with Fexo and over-the-counter pills (and a nasel spray FFS).

Lungs feel much clearer with the steroid inhaler.

This. Every day and twice on Sunday!

I normally only get wheezy at night but the regular salbutamol seems to work ok.

Thankfully I don't suffer (I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy) but my youngest has just started with it. Time to try and see what cure works best for him.

I've never noticed so much pollen around. I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to keeping my car clean and this year it's been constantly covered in a layer of the stuff within hours of cleaning it.

Anyone getting a wet cough with this hay fever season?

My 2yo and I have had the same cough for weeks. Seems to be worse early morning late evening and very productive.
None of the other symptoms you’d get with a chest infection or covid etc and hasn’t affected my breathing in the gym either.

literally seems to tie in with my hay fever starting.

I was up until Tues/Weds when the Allevia kicked in for me. Cough was particularly bad in the morning.

Yeah same, I’m bloody sure it’s hayfever causing it. I’ll Google the Allevia, cheers!
