I'm sorry. I wasn't meaning to be harsh or to alienate anyone. Lots of people react differently to different inputs.

So apologies if I stepped over the line.

I wrongly assume everyone needs kicking into shape, others do not. I'm a stubborn bar steward so if I say I'll do something, and someone says "I don't believe you", I feel the need to prove them wrong. I react to a "good kicking".

This thread is for support and all I really want to do is get people on board and the point of the thread is to get people to lose weight and be healthier.

So....

Welcome aboard!

What's your plans, long term goals and preferred methods to get there?!
Water under the bridge mate.

I do appreciate what you are saying, but last night I had agreed to help my technophobe mum to set up her new phone, which took till 9pm. I did have a lean tea though so that's an improvement over recent habits.

My long-term goal is to get to 100kg and lose body fat, currently sat at high 120's so I need to weight in and track my loss.

Diet wise I have tried loads of different ones, the only common theme was they failed after about 2 months, hopefully this intermittent fasting combined with the reduction of 'bad' foods will lead to a more organised situation that is easier to stick to. Apparently allowing one 'cheat' meal per week, note - not an entire day, means you still get to experience the foods you like whilst not destroying the good works you've been doing all week.

Tonight I'm going to the gym and jumping on a bike as I'm trying to re-build my leg strength a little before I try to take the road bike out as it has been ages since I have been on a bike. I also need to plan my push/pull/leg gym routine around what days work best and when the gym is quiet.
Sounds like a variation of what I’ve been doing since the New Year:
16/8 fasting each day
No refined sugar (I haven’t gone no sugar as fruit has benefits - esp at this time of year)
I have just started no bread for Lent.

As at my last weigh-in I had lost 6.1kg since the start of the year. Another 18kg to go.

My “secret” - so far at any rate - is not to think beyond today. As in “today I’m going to eat better”. It’s the one day at a time approach, but it’s easier to get my head around one day - or even just the next hour or two - than thinking about long term goals.

When this method stops working, I’ll try something else.

Up 0.3kg this week

Loss this year 2.4kg, loss in Feb 0

Happy with progress this week;

Loads of gym work which is going well
No alcohol this year
Good diet with loads of protein and generally very healthy

The belt I wear for lifting now closes fully so my waist size is reducing. Overall body fat is coming down.

Will stick at this diet/exercise plan for another month before I consider changing things

Have a great weekend all

0.9kg loss this week.

I have to say going “no bread” since Wednesday means that I’m just eating a lot less. Need to find the right balance here so that I don’t trip myself up.

Well done to the losers and those who have stayed flat.

And for those where it’s tipped up this week, no matter: it’s the overall trend that counts. Keep going!

No change in weight this morning.
Parkrun done, back to the hill course and managed a 30:57 so another minute and 15 seconds off despite the harder terrain.

Moving in the right direction for definite

Edit: once back from my run my nose started to run, it’s 9am the next day and it’s still going. I’ll be taking a steady week as I feel like crap

There is far too much talk of excerise on here!! I'm coming up to finishing probably the most amount of structured cardio + strength work I've ever done in my entire life!!!

I've averaged nearly 40 minutes of at least Hr Z2 work everyday for the last 2 months.

My nocturnal Hr is now nearly 40bpm, resting day time is below 45bpm. I can 50+ push ups on demand in one go.

My weight however is firmly 'stuck', the only way for me to drop the weight is to tighten up on food intake, which is almost impossible to do whilst focusing on cardio fitness and strength building!!!

Excerise = Very BAD idea for weight loss smile

Not a good time to say I rowed my first half-marathon yesterday? hehe

Exercise is bloody brilliant for people who are making positive changes to diet and movement, especially when coming from a sedentary lifestyle or the early stages of their weight loss journey. I'm losing ~1kg a week through a combination of better habits. I KNOW it works for me and lots of us still have a long way to go. Gz exercises as much as anyone and had great results, but throws a picture (or 100) in from when he stopped for a few weeks and dropped more. I carry water or whatever it is from exercise but it's the same every week, so my weight loss still follows a pattern. I would imagine just about everyone who has lost considerable weight has done so with improved movement and diet.

Different strokes folks. Keep at it.

Since Friday I’ve eaten 3 muffins (someone at work bought them and gave me some to take home), 2 crunchies, and some chocolate buttons punch

Don’t buy them / have them in the house people!

Exercise particular for unfit and new exercisers of a a double edge sword. It leads to long term losses through burning energy but short term gain through swelling

Excerise is fab, I love doing it smile. For weight loss though it's all done to eatting less, I find doing the latter takes far more effort and focus, as do most others on this thread frown.

Down 0.4kg this week. Finally below 100kg (although not by much - 99.8kg!).

Trying to think of varying foods as now getting a bit bored with the same old two boiled eggs for lunch…

People want to lose weight so that they can look and feel better. Exercise for anyone on the other side of 40 is probably not enough to make them lose weight on its own but combined with diet, will make them look and feel better.

Congrats, it's a nice milestone. My starting weight was a bit higher but I'm looking forward to being under 100kg for the first time since 2019.

Must be a few folk who joined the thread and haven't updated here or the wiki. Never too late to start if you haven't, or let us know how you're doing.

Good work! I didn’t really mark the through 100kg point but actually it’s important psychologically.

Lunch has got harder for me - decided to give up bread during Lent. Yesterday I had a couple of pieces of fruit for lunch (dinner was steak grilled on the BBQ + veg). Today I had a can of cock-a-leekie soup, some graze nuts and some fruit. I’m in the office on Weds so will buy myself sushi.

We’re away at Paris Disney this weekend (no, not for out of season fun - daughter’s in a dance competition) so I’m going to have to be careful about what I eat. Hopefully some normal food available….

I have no issues with variety of types of food, but I cannot stick to 'diets' that restrict things. Weekdays it's fine, work is so busy lunch rarely happens. At weekends though it's impossible for me to not enjoy food. This was what we had today, home made chrizo/runny egg/tomato bake after a lazy morning, chocolate marble cake for tea, and smoked salmon pasta with a cream sauce for dinner.

Going to finish the weekend with a nice bottle of Grenache, weight watching is OK at week days but good food (and wine) make life fun, and if I cannot relax properly at weekends what's the point!

First weigh in since I signed up on New Years day. Now 92.2 kg from 94.6 kg. Not a huge loss but better than nothing!
The biggest issues for me are not sorting my diet out properly and picking up injuries which affects my training. I hurt my shoulder weight training about 7 years ago and it still causes problems, along with a recurring knee injury from football.

I do think that KG's being larger units make it harder to motivate, "only" 2.4kg is over 5lbs. The thing is i doubt many of us were at a level, static weight and were all on an increase pattern so its not just a loss, its a changing a trend.

The problem is that cake is probably 500kcals on its own. Thats more than 33% of my current daily intake and its things like that I have stopped having. Thats where the will power comes in. On saturday after we had to wait at a Costa before visiting a relative in hospital. In the past I would have had some chocolate tiffin to go with my cup of tea. But thats 450 kcals, and the carrot cake was 600kcals. I had to engage serious will power whilst my wife had a cake, I just had a cup of tea.

IMO declining that stuff it what makes my diet work, I would rather spend my 500kcals on a decent steak if I am going to break the rules.

Agree. For years I have weighed myself in lbs. You see a far more granular change day-to-day. I do it daily, every morning when I wake up and then there isn't the big horrible weigh in once a week to worry about.

I see it go up a tiny bit, down a bit, maintain a bit, etc but over 2-3 weeks you see the numbers shifting downwards (or up depending on what your targets are)

Well, first weekend done on my new routine.

Back doing strength & cardio training tonight after work.

I do feel a lot better already, not sure if that's the placebo affect or not......

Only gripe is due to not being able to eat after 8pm I do feel a little hungry going to bed, just have to suck it up at the minute I guess. Anyone else on 8-16 fasting have any tips?
