True, this is small... but my trainer advised I should start with this and progress
Pavel T advises for regular fellas to start with a 16kg. The KB is a conditioning tool and best benefits come from it being used as such.V8mate said:
Why did he only buy a little one though?
I've got a 24kg for home swingerage. £80, IIRC.

You need to get the KB for the job in hand. Mine was for two-hand swing routines. I couldn't use my 24 for one-hand OH press stuff.

Yep. I was only teasing.

Seems slick enough...
You've snatched with it then? And it doesn't rip your skin up? Some KB handles need sanding, and if that was the case with this one, I wouldn't consider purchasing one.Halb said:

I've looked for 'shiny kettlebells', where did you purchase it?

Watch the 6 month transformation video in the middle.
That inspired me and deflated me at the same time. I've being training in once sense or another forever!!!! I've gained weight, lost weight, gained muscle, gained fat, looked fat, looked lean-ish and basically gone round in circles! But I've never really got that far from being chunky!! I should certainly be far stronger than I am, my strength is in endurance rather than power, but I'm working to balance that. At 42 I'm not too worried about big numbers, but saying that, it's hard not to have one eye on what everyone else in the gym is pushing/pulling, especially when some young lad half your size uses your weights for warming up!!Watch the 6 month transformation video in the middle.
Anyway, that video highlighted the need for consistency and working towards small goals and not giving up. I'm aiming for getting as close as I can to single digit bodyfat this year (9.9% will do nicely). It's going to be a long journey, and I've got some really bad habits to break. I want to reduce my body fat mainly for health reasons, I've already outlived my dad who died at 39, and my three children seem to like me so it would be good to stay around for a while longer, but more than that, be a fit and healthy dad too.
I'm using myfitnesspal properly, by that I mean weighing and logging everything. The first few days were alarming seeing the extra snacks I'd snuck in that I sort of don't count!
I've already noticed that the kids snack draw is staying well stocked! I'm not telling everyone (except the internet), that I'm not on a diet, I'm just cutting the rubbish out, working harder and sticking with my plan!
Why do you want sub-10% body fat? You didn't mention wanting to be an athlete of any kind... the only aspiration you mention is the usual gym lift-envy.
The rest of your post seemed to just want to be a normal, fit, healthy human.
So lift more, eat as much (nutritious food) as you want and be happy. I'd suggest that 12-16% BF is much more sustainable for us mere mortals; we look healthier for it and we can put competitive pressure on ourselves to do important stuff like training better, rather than just being scrawny.
No right answer, of course! Just my 2p
