Final turbo session of the winter. Real killer - no rest tonight. Glad it's over, I'm really tired! Oh, and an hour of football yesterday, ankle held up really well

How do machines calculate calories burned? Do they look at work done and assume a % efficiency for muscles?
I went on the Garmin website for some research the other night and couldn't really find any specifics, but I think it's based on heart rate and your moving speed (your pedal cadence). How it actually gathers that information I'm not sure. Edited by mcelliott on Thursday 10th March 21:27

Good luck with the competition - let us know how you get on . . .
Cheers ! Don't expect to do too well to be honest, it's not and U90 comp so I'll be up against bigger guys. It's also pretty heavy for me at present..... However, I'll be pushing hard and hope to do OK on some of the events. Will let you know how it get on though!
14 miles on bike in 30 minutes.
Heart rate averaged 170ish so I'm happy.
I've gone up 2 miles since the start of the week. Going to see if I can get up to 15 miles next week and then I'll start increasing the gradient a bit more.
It's part of my bigger plan to exercise for 30 minutes a day (Minus friday and saturday) until the 30th of April and see what effect it has on my well being.
Not looking to lose weight or anything like that, just give CV a bit of work.

11,5,4 chins. Will start adding weight now ive broken 10 reps. Do I need to get a belt for this or can I pick up a DB with my feet??
5x5 rows
5x5 EZ barbell curl
5x5 lat pulldowns
DB with the feet will be OK under 15ish kg, over that i'd just use a cheap belt and a sling/rope for attaching plates. I use a golds gym cheap belt and a rock climbing sling- came to ~£15 for both- cheaper and stronger than a purpose made one (have doen singles with 60kg with no issues)5x5 rows

Great, thanks. I have a belt I can use. Will have a go with the DB's up to 15kg then use the belt.My comp yesterday:
105 axle floor to OH: No rep, couldn't clean the f**ker. Never trained using an axle and it showed- different beast from an oly bar! Didn't expect to do well though. 9th
Max 15" dead (3 attempts): Opened on 220, easy enough; then 240, same; 260 for my final attempt and got it. Should have tried 270 but wimped out. 6th
320 Yoke 10m: Felt heavy! got 4 or 5 meters. 10th
140 farmers 10m: finished in 13ish seconds (I think) Very happy with this. 6th
53kg inch DB Floor to OH 90sec: Got 8 reps, really happy with this. 4th
9th overall, which was good for an U90 so I'm pretty pleased, comp was maybe a bit heavy for me but great fun anyway. Placed well on the last two events but too late in the day. Still, most of the other guys were 100kg+, so I should do ok in my own weight class.

Less hilly loop around Dartmoor this week, still seem to spend too much time going up hills but what doesn't kill me can only make me stronger...

Usual Sunday circuit today - usual selection of climbs and headwind sections. Legs felt really good, however this coming week I've decided to take some active rest. I've been training my nuts off since October, so I think a little rest is overdue before I start to focus more on intensive interval
based road work.
