The Joys of Wisdom Teeth...

I routinely place my knee on the chest of my patients (male and female) and so do most of my colleagues. They teach this technique at all the dental schools.
I hardly ever use anaesthetic either because, well, fk'em.
Did you do mine about ten years ago? Left me with bruises and a twitch by my eye temporarily where they'd pulled at my face so hard. To top it off they left a bit of broken tooth in my swollen and battered gum which I extracted a couple of days later with my leatherman.I hardly ever use anaesthetic either because, well, fk'em.
They did at least use a local to numb the area, the assistant managed to inject my tongue to start with by mistake which was highly amusing - not
To make it all worse I'd waited so long on the NHS waiting list (18 months) that they didn't actually hurt anymore when I went in to have them out.
Still, I'm sure things have improved in the last ten years.

4x Impacted Wisdom teeth here, all out under general anaesthetic in a day surgery unit. I thought it wasn't so bad, then the anaesthetic wore off.....
Stitches were bad too
I got my 4 out in my mid 20s as described above. I hadn't had any pain it was my dentist who pointed out they were going to cause me trouble. I was a bit sore for about a week after but no bruising. Got sick of eating scrambled egg though! Chewing was painful as was opening my mouth wide enough even to get a sandwich in! Was off work for a week feeling miserable.Stitches were bad too

No sarcasm at all, I really do put my knee on patient's chests when extracting teeth.
For difficult extractions I place my foot on their throats.
Yup, me too. knees on chest, get my assistant to hold their arms down whilst sitting on their legs and I use a leather strap to hold their head back. Standard practice. For difficult extractions I place my foot on their throats.
I only put my foot in their throat if they don't pay though

I habitually numb up the tongue as this prevents the patient from talking.mojitomax said:

It doesn't help get the tooth out but I find it very relaxing.
