My doc told me 70% of tonsillitis is viral anyway, so antibiotics don't always do much. I'd ring NHS direct - they listened to my OH explain my illness and then sent two paramedics round. They gave me an injection of something magic which worked, so fortunately they didn't cart me off in an ambulance. I had been vomiting for 24 hours straight at 10 minute intervals, so you won't get any sympathy off me! Man up, all you need is some tyrozets, lots of water and a shed load of icepops (the icepops really do help).
There's always someone worse off. Always.
I can talk (without pain) and eat/drink (With pain) so a i probably just need to man da fuk up init.
It's the interrupted sleep that is doing me in I think.
Also, in the morning my symptoms are 10 fold for some reason.. Probably because i breath through my mouth at night.

Do not start taking those antibiotics, there are much better ones to take and as others have said, you need a full course of antibiotics. Get yourself down to the walk in centre, they are good and know what they are doing.
In the meantime, regular paracetamol and or ibuprofen, salt water gargles, throat lozenges, soft diet and rest up. You are more likely to have tonsillitis than glandular fever and the fact you can sit and type on the computer suggests that glandular fever is unlikely - most people with glandular fever can't even lift there head up as it takes too much effort!
With Glandular fever you can do stuff, I drove the G33 back from le Mans with it and was hospitalised the evening I got home. Spent all of Le Mans weekend feeling seriously crap though. In the meantime, regular paracetamol and or ibuprofen, salt water gargles, throat lozenges, soft diet and rest up. If taking ibruprofen make sure you don't take it on an empty stomach, but it will help so do take it.
Tonsillitis is nasty, I used to get it quite a lot as a child right up until my late twenties, including with hallucinations at times.
The swelled mass in your throat is pretty normal, mine would often look 'furry' too, everything tasted horrible, and I could smell a rancid, awful smell all of the time.
Ultimately, it should, hopefully, go away by itself but it can take a couple of weeks. I've had mostly bacterial tonsillitis in my time, only having the viral form once, so odds are you can get antibiotics for it. You'd feel an improvement inside 2 days too.
Are you signed up with a doctor anywhere? If so, you can get treatment at any other pretty much, as long as you give details of your regular doctor.
Be warned though, it can get very unpleasant, I had a colleague once who was admitted to hospital when his throat started to close up. In fairness, it doesn't sound like you've got a really bad dose, I've had it where I can, just about, struggle into work, well wrapped up of course (it isn't particularly contagious), and also had it where I could hardly walk to the bathroom, plus a lot of variations in between.
Drink plenty of fluids, particularly orange juice (for the Vit C).
Get well soon.

I think i've reached the end. Wondering if there's any point in going to the doctors today.
Current status:
Swollen Tonsils
Red painful back of the throat
No more white spots or whiteness at all.
Headache has occurred though. Could be dehydration. It seems not matter how much i drink, I'm dehydrated.
