I was admitted to Hospital in Tenerife whilst on holiday in December 2009. I arrived home today to find a letter from a company called Eventus requesting full payment of the costs (£600). This came as quite a shock! I was not informed during my stay (2 days) that anything was payable - they discharged me without informing me this.

I had assumed that my EHIC card would cover the costs. I "think" I had travel insurance for this trip, but my concern is that if EHIC doesn't cover the costs that my insurance company would not pay out due to this being almost 2 years ago.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

"Not at this address"

Sorry, you did say any advice! smile
Nice solution, but out of the question unfortunately - I have only just moved into this house. God knows how they have traced me because the address on the invoice is where I lived about 5 years ago (which I suspect they took from my driving license as they sifted through my wallet whilst unconscious). They have probably being trying to trace me for 2 years.

If you were in a state hospital you were covered. It has happened though that people have been taken to a private hospital and not realized..even then though

your medical insurance should cover it.
I don't know if the hospital was private - I was found unconscious and therefore taken to whatever hospital they wanted. If it was a private hospital then I wouldn't have liked to see a state one - I was left on a trolley in a corridor for the whole morning until they moved me into a ward.
