Now that I am considering starting running again, after the insertion of a chunk of metal and plastic where my left hip used to be, I want to get the most shock absorbing shoes and inserts that I can to delay the revision operation as much as possible.

There was a guy selling innersoles made of Poron at a country fair we went to and I thought nothing of it. But having Googled the material I find that there are a fair few hits and a couple of demos on YouTube that are quite impressive so I thought that I might investigate a pair.

Has anyone had any experience of the stuff?

Look into retraining your running style to that of barefoot runners as well, using the ball of your foot and by inference you lower leg tendons for shock absorption.
Yeah, good point. I'd thought about that - toe running do they call it?

I'll check it out, maybe have a look on runners world. Saw three barefoot runners in the great south run. Made me wince.

Do you remember the details of the person selling the innersoles?.
Here's the website;

Have you heard of them, or reports of their effectiveness?

No I haven't, but having looked at the reviews they look like just what I need. I wear safety boots and am on my feet for 10+ hours of a 12 hour shift and am often limping due to heel and arch pain by the end of the shift.

Just checked their website and they don't list my size. I have sent them a message to see if they can do larger than listed though.

When I was chatting to the guy I seem to remember him sourcing some huge ones for someone, AND getting some for some squaddies.

The videos are impressive so I think I will chat to my physio.

If I get a reply and the cost isn't ridiculously higher than for the other sizes listed I will be ordering. I will update if I go any further.

Thanks for the lead.
There seems to be a huge variety in prices of soles for sale on the web, so I guess different thicknesses and sizes. Looks like it needs some investigation.

Yes, please let us know how you get on.

OK, not appropriate footwear for you (I'm making some assumptions here!) But looks like it is starting to be incorporated into 'shoes'.

I'm going to post on runner world to see what those guys come up with.

Big difference in prices! £16.95 or so on the website I suggested, and as low as £2.95 plus p&p on eBay....
