So, last night I ran 10k...for the first time ever.
Ive always had a constant battle with my weight. At my heaviest I was 19stone. At my skinniest I was 14 stone. i'm currently 15.5stone
In a bid to get down to 14 again (aiming for 13 though), I have taken up running. I have never been a runner, indeed my previous weightloss was down to cycling. But for the last few weeks I have been building up my distances.
I started out doing 2k's after a couple of them I graduated to 5k, a few more of those and I thought to myself last night i'm going to push for 6k.
Well, I hit 6k, and I kinda just didnt stop. Before I knew it I had done 10k in a time of 1hour and 4 mins (I have no idea if this is a good time or not). I have to say i'm proud of myself. I really cant wait to get back out for my next run. I feel great.
However, I a blister developed on the side of my foot. I think I was wearing the wrong socks, so i've not got a pair of proper running socks. My question is how long will it take for the blister to heal? today is my rest day, I would like to go for a run tomorrow, is that advisable? I can walk with only a little niggle and the compeed blister plaster is helping hugely, but its annoying that I did so well and now I have a stupid setback!!
So any advise on how to treat the blister? And how to become a better runner
Thanks
ET

thanks for the replies, encouragement and feedback guys. I'm going to check out the running thread when I get a chance.
Slightly miffed though- instead of resting yesterday and FiL and I decided to throw the medicine ball around for a bit. We did sit ups (where your partner throws the ball to you while you're sitting down you do a sit up and throw it back. Rinse and repeat.). Anyway the exercise put alot of stress on my stomach and ribs, which are now killing me!! I wanted to go for a run today!
So today is an enforced rest day, which I hope will see me right as i'm planning a run tomorrow.
