sore Achilles: does horse liniment work?

Am in training for Bath Half and London full marathons next year, 58yr old, reasonably fit, but right Achilles is sore. Have heard horse liniment (human version) is effective for back pain. Any thoughts on how it might work for a sore Achilles?
