Yes it’s official, after spending most of the afternoon at the local hospital, I have the virus. I work within the aviation industry on the ground, all week I’ve felt rough but didn’t really think much of it until yesterday when it seemed to get much worse. I had all the symptoms mentioned, my boss actually sent me home yesterday so called my GP who advised going to the hospital for further tests.
To be honest, it doesn’t feel much worse than a bad case of man flu.
Anyway, off work for 2 weeks so time to get the household chores done.

You work for BA then?
Not BA but at the same airport as the baggage handlers picked up by the press. We’ve all been working with additional precautions but I have a feeling it will spread so quickly around the airports, it’s impossible to protect the ground staff from exposure to passengers, aircraft cabins and baggage.

Just to answer a few of the questions above, I’m still reading in greater detail all the information I’ve been given earlier today.
As far as the symptoms go, it’s like a really bad case of the flu with more aches and pains than usual along with a really dry/sore throat and fever.
My wife and daughter have gone to stay at her mums for a couple of weeks.
I have a doctors telephone follow up on Monday but so far that’s the extent of any monitoring apart from a phone number to call for those with the virus should anything get worse.

I don't understand this bit. Are you in an at-risk group, OP? Why did your GP send you to hospital, against all the NHS and government advice? confused
My nearest hospital have self contained pods set up which the local GP’s are directing patients to.

How are you feeling today?
Thanks for asking, the same as yesterday, achey, fever and generally rough. I’m not complaining too much, spent the day on the sofa catching up on lots of recordings.

So, PH coronavirus party anyone? Catch it to get ahead of the curve and bagsy that ICU bed if you need it?

More seriously, good luck to you OP! Keep us informed how it goes. How old are you by the way?
Evening all, thanks for messages and replies. Not a huge amount to report unfortunately, it’s actually pretty dull. Spent the day watching tv, a few odd jobs around the house and snoozing. All very quiet without the other half and my daughter.
I’m 36 btw

Afternoon All,

Appreciate the replies and messages. My neighbours don’t know, rightly or wrongly I don’t want to spread the hysteria. I don’t see a huge amount of the neighbours.
The other half and in-laws are dropping supplies off and leaving on the patio for me to collect. I can cope with feeling rough but the worst part is the loneliness, although we do FaceTime many times throughout the day.
My doctor and the unit set up at the hospital want a call this week to check on progress, apart from that, there isn’t much more they can do. I don’t feel too bad at the moment, last night wasn’t great with a very high fever while shivering but lemsips seem to work best.

Er, I think he means, not believing that the Original Poster genuinely has the virus.
If that is the case, let them crack on. I have better things to be doing that stuck at home for 2 weeks feeling the way I do with my family separate at her parents.

Morning,

Apologies for the lack of updates, I know people want to be kept updated but nothing has really changed. Sunday night and yesterday were definitely the worst days so far, the main thing is the fever and sweating, waking up during the night shivering but the bed is soaked. I had a call with my GP but was told it's be expected and continue what I'm doing ensuring I keep hydrated.

To answer a couple of the questions above, I originally called 111 who then advised me to contact my GP, after a telephone consultation I was sent to the temporary unit set up at my local hospital which consists of modular buildings away from the main hospital building.

As for not having the virus, this is ridiculous! I would rather be getting on with everyday life, working and being together with my family rather than spending every minute alone feeling dreadful.

hows the breathing?
Thankfully not an issue, I haven't experienced any breathing issues apart from a dry sore throat. From what I've been told it's those with underlying respiratory problems that are most likely to suffer.

Most people I know who have suffered from a proper bout of flu, can’t type about their experience as it’s happening, because it knocks the bejebus out of them. It seems this nCOVID-19 somehow avoids this then scratchchin. I guess the O.P. May be using some kind of Stephen Hawking-esque device to type or something though.
What else should I be doing? I've caught up on a lots of recorded TV, slept on and off, Facetime the family and a few simple chores around the house. I'm more than capable to post on here.

How are you feeling OP? Still bored as fk?
Absolutely!! Don’t feel too bad at all. It’s the nights that are a struggle. During the day paracetamol helps keep things at ease.
If it was the flu, I think I’d be heading back to work on Monday.

Afternoon,

I'm continuing to improve, the fever has thankfully passed, apart from the aches and lack of appetite I feel ok. The family are pretty fed up more than anything but we still have another week to stay apart.

As I mentioned earlier, if I could I would be heading back to work next Monday but looks like a week sorting out the garage along with odd jobs around the house.

Evening all,

Apologies for the lack of updates, there hasn’t actually been much to report. As I mentioned in earlier updates, I’ve been improving over the past few days, still not 100%, the main thing is the aches and even the smallest task like walking up the stairs is a struggle. Apart from that, I’m ok. Still have another week to stay off and the way things are heading, my job situation is also looking very unpredictable just to top it off.

What’s happened to the OP???
I'm still here. Definitely coming out the other side of it now, still achy and have the sore throat but nothing compared to how it was at the beginning. My biggest concern now is my job, unfortunately it doesn't look good but aircraft still require a level of maintenance even when not flying so we'll see.

Overall not the best few weeks.

How you doing OP?
Not too bad on the health side of things, sadly I’ve been laid off from my job.

Cannot believe how quick this has all happened, doesn’t seem so long ago we were flat out gearing up for the spring schedules.

Good afternoon all,

Apologies for the lack of updates, as per my last update, apart from the cough and sore throat which I can't seem to shift I'm absolutely fine. My family can return this week which will be a huge relief.
I mentioned previously that I had unfortunately been laid off from work which has been more of a worry than feeling awful.

Just glad you're better OP! Thanks for checking back in!

What line of work are you in? Might be worth mentioning on here in case anyone can help out with anything / some pointers.
I'm in aircraft engineering. Not really the best at present. Never mind, flying will resume so it won't be forever.
