Hoping Any physios or foot specialists see this! Few weeks ago I sprained my ankle awkwardly during football where my achilles went into too much compression. Was able to carry on playing but with pain. Can walk fine although it does start hurting after a while and also painful when I point my toes all the way down (plantar flexion I think?). Pointing toes up doesn’t bring on the pain. I know a diagnosis can’t be made over the internet but I’m wondering if I’ve done some damage to the tendon or ligaments?

Appreciate the replies. Booked in with a physio hoping it’s nothing serious. GP was useless and said take ibuprofen and ice as needed.

Update for anyone interested

Been paying for physio who reckons it was a minor (grade 1) tear of the deltoid ligament. The massage she’s been giving to break up the scar tissue is incredibly painful - wondering if this is normal? Ankle does feel stronger but the pain hasn’t completely gone yet. Also been told to stand against a wall and raise my toes upwards.

The pain has been continuing so I saw a podiatrist specialising in sports injury. According to him it’s posterior ankle impingement - maybe due to an ‘extra’ bone in my ankle called os trigonum. Seems quite a rare injury thats mainly associated with ballet dancers. Most cases can be treated with therapy and sometimes cortisone injections but if not, then it’s surgery. I’m on a bit of a downer to be honest no idea when I can return to football it’s my only exercise!

The podiatrist did mention that given it's been almost 2 months of ongoing pain it wouldn't hurt (mind the pun and aside from my wallet maybe!) to get an mri scan done. Can my GP refer me for one? Waiting times will be very long I'd imagine. What am I looking at price wise for a private scan?
