Im not really into these self indugent "look at me" posts but thought I might share that I am stopping smoking tomorrow. My company is running a seven week course with outside experts advising. First was a meet and greet, the second was advising the different types of medications and nicotine replacement therapies available and how to use them.

I have gone with patches and an inhalator, they say doubling up is better that using one product alone. Patches so I dont need to keep reminding myself to chew gum or put a tab under my tounge, inhalator is in case I need a hit and something to occupy my hands. Next session is tomorrow and everyone is going to stop smoking at the session.

I feel odd sitting here drinking and smoking and knowing tomorrow will be quitting day.

Wish me luck. Money saved could pay for a cheap track day toy or a season karting.

Any speeling or gandmar errors is because I am getting drunk tongue out

try to avoid the pub or where you would usually socialise while smoking.
Well thats the thing, in the past stopping smoking and going to the pub was a no-no because of the other people smoking but there is no smoking in pubs anymore so no temptation and I can puff on the inhalator inside when the others go outside in the cold.

It's odd when your sense of smell comes back after quitting.
Its the taste buds I am worried about, I have only recently started to eat things I hated as a child. Hope I still like them whan I can really taste them.

You will feel odd for a while, your hands will have times when 'they' don't know what to do with themselves - I recommend giving yourself the chance to make minute, detailed changes in the shape of your fingernails as often as you can.
I have the inhalator to give me something to do with my hands . Also bought some bread sticks, celery and healthy dips. Rasberies and grapes to munch on.

You will notice a steady improvement in your sense of taste, again, not always for the best. Sometimes coffee from machines that haven't been cleaned for a few hours tastes vile whereas a cup of a freshly cleaned Gaggia's macchiato is only the first of three or more...
Even as a smoker I have never liked vending machine coffee. Only one machine has actually managed a half decent tea, it actually dropped a tea bag into a plastic cup eek

GOOD LUCK - you're a grown-up, you can chuck your dummy away now wink
Cheers. a nicotine dummy will be better than the real thing.

ps: take the patches off at night otherwise you'll have really wierd dreams and a crap/restless night's sleep
I am going to use the 16 hour patches rather than the 24 hour ones so should not encounter that problem. I know what you mean though, I have tried the patches before and you need to take them off a hour or so befoe retireing for the night.

From a life-long non-smoker, if youre giving up tomorrow, why not not have another one from the second you wrote that post?

I dont gettit.
Its a seven week cource I am on. Today is designated quit day, I still have a few more weeks of going to the group sessions.

Patch went on this morning no morwe cigs for me. If I feel myself getting a bit agitated or wound up I can always go out and duff up a couple of crusties who are running around the city.

Thanks for all the support. I don't suppose the mods will let me run a blow by blow account of my non smoking antics so "in before the lock" biggrin

Patch worked, no cig on the way to work and I don't usually smoke during the day which makes me long for the 5:30 cig. About 5 ish I really wanted something extra which is where the inhalator comes in, few puffs on that and I was ok, apart from the headache it gave me. Patch irritated a little and had a mild dead arm, made me lose my appitite eek .

Get this, in the group session today they asked people to pick a buddy. You are supposed to call each other on alternate days and give them support and encoragement. Not really my sort of thing, bit to touchy feely for me, then they say that you and your buddy have to put an amount each into an envelope and if either of you smoke you lose the lot eek

There is actually a cracking Irish girl in the group that I think is single, silver lining etc getmecoat
