I have a feeling its going to be very, very special to drive, not much more expensive than a well equipped standard car, and one of the last few great drivers cars available with a manual gearbox.

It would be a wonderful car to own while i wait for the new elite!

The specs as I understand - and belive me I have looked into it.....

For 9k extra - you get
Engine as speced above - super charger will not be available as an official retrofit

Comes with the sports pack - plus an exhaust with a bypass valve - as std
Comes with the CR box as std
External rear cosmetics as seen
Suspension set slightly stiffer with diffrent bushing as spring rates (only 's' at the moment)

internally a slightly diffrent Alpine unit with tech pack - std car has now got an up graded one
as well (both similar but diffrent models)

and thats your lot
First customer deliveries beginning of next year - if ordered now

If it's £9k on top of the base standard evora price then that's a steal.

Though I would imagine there are desirable extras to add to that too.

I am 90% certain I will order one. Its just a question as to when; the local dealers demo car will arrive in Dec and I cant imagine I will buy without a proper test drive. If its as good as I hope then away we go. The only issues then are 'do I wait a while and pick up slightly used one': a possibility given the depreciation on the current dealer stock ( guess low mileage LE models can be had for very low 40s). Or just sod it and order a new one: then its a question of colour choice and spec!. My heart wants Chrome Orange (like my Exige) but my head says the general reaction will be 'who is this nobber!' and I should go for a more sober colour given it will be my every day car.

I have done the garage tour, including Maserati, 911, Aston, XKR and to be honest whilst they are all great cars, none felt as good on the road as the Evora. This felt like you were part of it, rather than driving it, and at this point I was prepared to forgive the foibles!

So, to answer the question raised in the post. Then yes I am probably going to part with my cash.

I have a Black Evora, but have seen a Orange one (owner is on Lotus Forums and Scottish Elises) and the car looks absolutely stunning. A very bold choice I must admit (although possibly limited market come resale) but it looks great.

I went for the sensible colour but sometimes wish I had the b£lls to choose such a jaw dropping colour.

If the standard Evora is anything to go by, then can't wait to get a shot of the Evora S. Just hope that they offer an slight upgrade pack for us standard Evora drivers who have purchased before the S.

Cheers

I was the same. I went round and tried all the cars but I knew the evora was for me when I drove it.

For £9k extra, what a steal considering the sport pack and CR box would be £3k (IIRC) anyways.

I was also the same as yourself for the colour choice, and went for Chrome Orange.

Big mistake! It's horrible in the flesh, don't do it!!

I'm sure there will be times that I will regret not buying an 'S'banghead

But how many trips?

I bought an Evora because it was a 2+2 and we could use it as a family - there will be times when I am out
by myself when I will miss the extra straight line low down punch of the 'S' - but how often?

1st - you need to be on the right road with light traffic
2nd - There is a child in the car!

The std car will be just fine as a second car - and will only do about 5-6k per year.

After coming to an Evora from a Caterham CSR - even the 'S' would seem slower under 100mphcop
but having fun is the name of the gamedriving

And if I'm willing to give up the Engine/Gearbox warrenty - I can get it supercharged any time!

Actually the S will be little changed over the standard car, which was designed from the start to easily accommodate the extra power. Apparently the brakes, suspension and chassis are all more than up to the job, which is why Lotus are able to keep the cost of the S down.

Other than the extra straight line enthusiasm, it will be very similar to the standard car to drive. Which is, of course, an entirely good thing.

Besides in a few years time you'll be able to trade yours in for a 400bhp Evora R or convertible, while the rest of us will have to make do with our 'S's!

I was told there will be an official ECU upgrade available for standard car, to take it above 300bhp, c£500.

I for one like the idea of the purity of the original. The significantly lower weight, the relative simplicity, both appeal. So many fine designs have been diluted by added bulk over the years, to get bigger headline performance figures. See the 911.

I loved my early 944. 1180kg!

I drove an NA Evora a few weeks ago on Norfolk B roads and loved it too. A magic carpet ride.

Don't do it, unless you want to spend another 20 minutes admiring the car when you get out :-)

Justin,

there was some talk of PB Racing in Italy (I think) doing an aftermarket kit but not heard anything on the pricing (see http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/)

Think the big stumbling block would be the warranty issue for anyone to go down that route.

However if there is an upgrade to 300bhp (considering I have the Performance Pack, Lotus Sports Exhaust) then very interested. Cue quick email to MMC.

Remap would be interesting..

I'm more tempted to wait for the roadster SC when it comes out..

You can get that from decent manifolds and exhaust system with freer flowing catalytic converter.

If you're feeling flush: http://www.supersprint.com/USP000lotevo1.asp

Or buy a set of these http://www.monkeywrenchracing.com/product_info.php... and get a custom exhaust setup for significantly less.

Mine's a custom setup on a 2GR-FE and it dynoed 270Hp at the wheels (approx 317 at the fly) Admittedly mine's without a catalytic converter but even with one you should see 300Hp. Some people are getting close to 335hp by running both banks seperate. (an option I may go with in the future)

If I'm feeling brave I know of a Rotrex C38 supercharger kit been developed which will hopefully be available with the next year or so.

One gripe I have with Lotus is the current colour range.

No dark metallic green? A disgraceful oversight.

Especially when you see this:

Also no metallic blue apart from the rather naff Laser blue.

Poor show Lotus, hopefully you'll add a few new colours for the S.
