New Evora interior next year
Discussion
Had my S for a week now. Had it run in by last sunday. As a driving tool it is awesome: it just pulls and pulls and is so easy to drive very quickly. On the narrower roads ( I went Huddersfield, Clitheroe, Settle, Hawes, Brough, Penrith, Dumfries, New Galloway, Stranraer, Portpatrick) it was as much fun as an Exige and quite a bit faster -when needed!
It does feel very solid with no rattles or squeaks and is finished well. Couple of minor issues which are being sorted whilst it's in for service. Another plus is the guys at JCT 600 have been fantastic: i have every confidence they will get the niggles resolved asap.
Lots of attention (not as much as the Sagaris!) but plenty nevertheless. Invariably from people who are chuffed to see Lotus moving back up market, and are keen to talk about it.
Overall I am very pleased I went for it and would recommend it. My head said I should have been spending my hard earned cash on a second hand V8V or 911, but my heart said the Evora! and I was struggling with the decision for quite some time. The only thought now is 'Lotus please build the softtop! It would be a great move in a couple of years!
Finally the car feels a lot quicker than the BHP would suggest! Actually feels much more urgent than the Sag!

I don't doubt that it feels quicker than the Sagaris.
I think it's a case of a real 'at least 345bhp' versus an optimistic 400bhp.
I also think Lotus are a lot more honest with their weight figures than most manufacturers. There are some major porky pies going on out there when it comes to headline figures.
Congrats on the car though, I was so, so close to having one myself and I won't be able to pass an Evora without wondering what if... I know I'd have loved it. Particularly the S. I really like the 'sleeper' quality it has. Supercar thrills in a super stealthy package plus everyday usability and best of all, it's not another 911!
Very few have ever driven an Evora, fewer still an Evora S. You're in a very exclusive club!
I hate to say it but the Vantage is amazing. But running costs are in a totally different league to that of a Lotus. Different in a bad way!
It doesn't steer like a Lotus (then again, what does?) but the V12 engine provides satisfactory compensation!

Thanks, I somewhat unkindly refer to it as a 'posh Sagaris'. You may know that I also owned a Sagaris a few years ago.
The V12 Vantage is very much like a Sagaris with the benefit of greater resources put into it. It's a fantastic car in many ways. Not nearly as useable or suitable for daily use as the Evora (I'd be terrified to leave it parked in town for long). The truth is in the real world it's not much faster either. On a bumpy b-road it would be slower than an Evora, for sure.
But it does feel ballistically fast and the engine is so smooth and powerful everywhere it's a stark reminder of how special the V12 configuration can be. For me it was a last chance to get a V12 sports car with a manual gearbox. Such things are a critically endangered species already. I mean Ferrari practically invented the V12 sports car and they have dumped the manual box already!
However I sold the Sagaris because, bottom line, being able to remove the roof always adds to the pleasure of a great drive. That's why I bought a Tuscan.
Time will tell if I'm able to enjoy a hard top car as much. I just hope they don't make a V12 Vantage Roadster because I'll want one badly but won't be able to afford one!

Congrats 08, which colour did you end up going for? Any pics?
There is something to be said for driving about in a car with almost no chance of bumping into another one. I've had mine 6 months and not seen another (other than a planned meet up)
As quick as a Sagaris though? Hmm. My old T350 feels miles apart from my NA Evora, though I haven't driven the S

For some reason Sagari don't feel quite as fast as they should for their p/w ratio.
For some other reason the V12 Vantage is one of those cars that feels even faster than it is.
There are many factors that influence the sensation of speed but it's got a lot to do with power delivery. The Elise R is without doubt slower than the Elise SC against the clock but feels a bit quicker, with a more intense albeit shorter lived powerband.
I very much suspect the standard Evora is a car that is quite a bit quicker than it feels. It's ride and poise makes speed just so easy. TVR's on the other hand can make a drama out of 60mph! The Evora S by all accounts does feel a good bit quicker than its claimed power figures would suggest. I'm happy to take 08Sag's word for it. But it does fit with other things I've read.

Hi Justin
I have tried to upload a couple of photos: one at a day old! (Not sure how well this will work!)
I went for the ice white with red leather.
I agree with 'the pits' re relative road speed: in sport mode the car feels so alive and ready for off at the twitch of a toe. With the sag it felt much more of 'plant your entire foot' and the roar will come! The Evora is so planted and relatively easy to drive that before you know it you are doing crazy speed. The addition of the supercharger quite significantly changes the driving dynamics: IMO its like the difference when I went from my 111R to the Exige S (but with 70 horses rather than 30). Some people swear by the need to really rev the 111R to get the most out of it, but (sometimes!) I prefer the seemingly effortless urge of the charger.
Anyway, have a go and see what you think. But I do agree that the roadster version is a must! Come on Lotus! Listen to your customers.

according to this weeks autocar it is (also) the exterior that's being restyled.Looks suspiciously like the elan that is now on development hold (according to car). Autocar's picture does look rather good...
What worries me about that article is that Lotus appear to admit that sales so far have been 'sluggish'. Whether or not a restyle will address the reasons for this I'm not sure. Ramping up the perceived quality of materials will help; however I can't help thinking that sales might also be missed because of arguably less flexible packaging vs. the Cayman & 911 competition and snobbery over use of a 'customer' engine at this price point (plus a lack of awareness of the car by anyone outside of the enthusiast fraternity), neither of which appear to be a consideration of this 'facelift'.I wonder what this will do to residual values of the current car? If they tumble that may well assist potential future secondhand buyers such as myself, but surely it won't help Lotus with their attempt to push upmarket?

Head over to TLF - quite a debate raging there. Follow the thread to see the pic.

For whats its worth, I see nothing wrong with the interior on the current Evora whatsoever. I personally believe that Lotus has some of the nicest interiors out there, and the Evora is to me 1 of the nicest in their cars thus far. You only have to look at interiors on cars such as the Noble, Porsche, and even Lambo, they are dull or overdone and just look plain, well, fugly.
This will only add to the current models rarity. Future classic status is assured.
The last proper Lotus?
Danny Bahar is eutotrash. Have you seen they're now selling lotus backgammon sets for £1500!? And donato coco is responsible for some of the ugliest ferraris of all time. I wish they'd clear off and do something useful like ruin Porsche instead.
