Went to the factory last week to have my Evora serviced ( now at 10k )all is well with the car.
Lots happening at Lotus , more enthusisam, more investment on the way and detail improvements to the Evora. The S looks and is the biz ! Improved gear linkage and the Sport button now operates while the car is under power. Order book has risen sharply with the S. Quality looked good. As far as colours go I still think my wife's choice of Liquid Blue is still my favourite after a year of ownership. Brooklands Green caught my eye , not to be confused with Empire Green . Of the 6 mixed models in the final inspection area - 3 white !

process of speccing up a car to try and beat the VAT increase schedule (and I am going to go with the S).
my dealer says it's possible to avoid 20% VAT by paying 17% deposit for delivery in 2011 -- since unlikely to get an S before year end.

anyone else heard this?

I take it SFO from your posts elsewhere that you're no longer interested in getting an Evora.

However I would like to know where you get your information from regarding free tech packs etc.

As for my Evora I've decided to wait and pay the dreaded extra VAT as that way I can get the spec I want. I'm very keen on the 'suedetex' interior as per the Paris show car (see my 'paris show pics' thread for details). I'm told this will be available next year. Hopefully so will the carbon bits and pieces. I'm looking for a March delivery, after the salt has been washed off the roads. At the moment it's all go for Indy Green with yellow vinyl stripes as per the Evora GT4/Cup car. I'm certain it will look astounding with the new wheels.

Given you can have any colour you want for £2k, what would other pher's ultimate colours be out of interest?

Black and Gold JPS homage?
Bond Esprit Turbo Copper Bronze? (this has already been done for a photoshoot)
Current F1 car livery?
Black with Lotus sport stripes (yellow and silver)
Esprit Sport 300 Metallic yellow?

I know at least one will be Chrome Orange and I have to agree it's an inspired choice. For some reason I can't fathom Chrome Orange works better than Burnt Orange too.

I love the black and gold and me last 3 lotii have always been black with cream interior and gold line.

However I have to say white with black roof gets my vote at the moment, the pictures of one with a carbon roof look great.

Like the bond Esprit bronze, always wanted an MGB when I was small in this paint....

Not sure how you came to that conclusion re:Evora. I am intrigued by Lotus. Am driving an Elise SC this weekend for a couple of hours, followed by the Evora S when it becomes available. I will then decide whether to swap the Boxster for a Lotus.

Anyway, the dealer (who has so far been excellent) I have been talking to says that Tech Pack (£2550) is free for Evoras ordered by year end (not sure if this is a dealer discount or a manufacturer promotion -- didn't want to waste salesman's time as don't know whether I am buying). He also says that it is possible to avoid 20% VAT even for Mar 2011 delivery if you pay the VAT amount on the order value by year end. This is consistent with VAT as I understand it .. once a VAT invoice is issued (so you benefit from the 17.5% rate), the VAT is payable to HMRC. Dealer pays HMRC for the VAT for the order and is therefore cashflow neutral.

Colour wise, either Apsen White with Paprika leather or Liquid Blue with Oyster leather.

Hi Pits: I was going to email you with the details I got when I put my order in re VAT, Tech Packs etc, but you are 'not contactable by email' via PH. (you can always mail me if you want the info).

In terms of colour then I have to go with Ice White with red leather and black wheels (as ordered) but I would have to consider some of the TVR colours such as Spectraflair Silver or a awesome 'Racing Green' green that about 3 Sags were painted in.

Not sure if that was tongue in cheek or not... Either way, I don't think Chrome Orange is actually that nice a colour, just the best out of a bad bunch. Orange wise, its not a patch on Arancio. There are far too many greys silvers on offer, and not enough blues, reds, etc..

I didn't really want to get into that here but just to explain my comment, you were pretty scathing about Lotus build quality on an Evora you viewed recently. Hopefully that car is not representative of the more recent, better built cars. But I hope you enjoy your test drives. Don't worry if the roads are wet. Elises are great fun in the wet. Try to find a nice big, quiet roundabout and do several laps until you can start to feel how responsive the car is to applications and lifts of throttle. Their exquisite balance is easier to experience on wet roads as you have to go so much quicker when it's dry to unstick them. The Elise also has an understeer saftey net built in. As Clarkson eventually found out on top gear, that is not all it will do. Handling-wise the Elise's repertoire is considerable, but clumsy inputs can get you into this safety net as I found out on my first Elise test drive. I just threw the car at a corner aggressively eager to try out the famous Lotus roadholding and it understeered wide, alarmingly towards an oncoming lorry. Lifting off naturally trimmed it's line by my instinct was to stay on the power which didn't help at the time. If this was my only experience I'd have written the car off as an understeering pig. As mentioned, it's a safety net (Lotus wanted the Elise to be accessible for drivers of all skill levels), if you're not clumsy you'll have no idea what I'm on about. Just explaining my roundabout thing as the elise needs a lift to trim it's line and to get the rear mobile, as you'll naturally find on a large, quiet, wet, roundabout!

Sorry, very off topic! Justin220 I was just expecting you to slap a picture of your car and was surprised to see a red Sagaris instead. I also think your colour choice is way better than the best of a bad job. I still haven't ruled it out myself!

Cheers for the info about deals and VAT etc, given it's not in any way 'shaming' can you not mention the dealers? No worries if you'd rather not. There's only a few left, I can ring them all!

For better or worse I'd be interested in your honest opinion.

Is it the new facelifted SC? I would expect that to be a very complete little sports car. The main downsides versus the boxster are the noise as standard is pretty uninspiring, but that can and should be fixed with a sportier exhaust. The other is that getting in and out requires a technique which the salesman should show you. It's worth knowing if you want to avoid the indignity of crawling out on all fours in public. I'm certain that many sales have been lost over this issue. Most people, quite reasonably, find it a compromise too far. Owners like me tend to quite like it as it adds to the sense of occasion, feels a bit more like a race car (which are always a performance to get in and out of), that and the feeling of 'wearing' the car and the surprising comfort you find once you're in. Either that or I watched too much 'Dukes of Hazzard' as a kid - why open the door when you can vault the bonnet of your charger and climb in through the window!

Also bear in mind that, as with any convertible, you only experience half the pleasures on offer if you only drive it with the roof on. It's also much, much easier to get in and out with the roof off! I hope you'll find the steering, control weights, agility and ride/handling compromise all to be exemplary. Whether they are worth the compromises only you can decide but don't expect it to match the boxster's imperious ability to tackle whatever you throw at it, be it challenging b-road, long motorway slog, daily commute or trackday. Then again, very few cars can.

Not sure if the demo is facelift ..

the white RGB I saw was lovely.

I drove an Elise years ago .. when it had a Rover engine. Loved it, but really couldn't buy it as too impractical and it didn't feel especially fast.

now have a CLS55 for the long journeys so can be braver with the twisties car ..

Getting into Elise 'easy' with roof off, less so with it on, but manageable. Already practised a few times. The pro bax seats are amazingly comfortable -- at least they are when the car is stationary smile

Will definitely have the roof off if not raining.

Boxster is very complete car, but the ride on 19" wheels on bumpy country roads is not great, and handling can suffer as well. Not powerful enough either. It would be perfect with another 50hp. I'm hoping the Elise offers the thrills, unshakeable ride and handling and more responsive performance.

I love the "stripped out" nature of the Elise.
