Seriously?
I think you'd get fined a lot less than £45k if you said "the N word"
Can't believe I just typed "the N word". The word is .
The sheriff is a near?I think you'd get fined a lot less than £45k if you said "the N word"

I to find it remarkable that the police/cps/fa or whoever dealt out this fine have the time/incentive to do so when there are far far worse crimes taking place on a daily basis.

It was the FA, for bringing the game into disrepute. Seems fair and sensible to me (and the fine probably about right, given it's based on his salary).aka_kerrly said:

It is nuts though, Frimpong was fined £6k, Federico Macheda £15k, Ravel Morrison £7k and Michael Ball £7k all for comments on Twitter I just find it amazing that 1) players seem to forget that anything you put on the internet can and will be used against you and 2) people are so god dam sensitive, most of complaints often come from people who weren't those that the comments were directed at.

How come Rio's charge came quicker than Terry's?
Maybe it's 'cos he is blackTo be honest in reference to my earlier comment it wasn't so much about the size of the fines more so that there appear to be a number of players who have been fined for what they say on Twitter.
I take the view that some people have actively gone out of the way to be offended by comments that were meant to be between "friends" which raises a question, if I lost my phone and someone found it, read my text messages and found a joke/comment that was between me and a friend that offends them I ought to be prosecuted for it - and this is freedom of speech?

Don't get confused between things that are illegal and things that the FA take action against. Rio Ferdinand was, quite rightly, not prosecuted for the tweet, nor were any of the others you mentioned. However, the FA has their own rules, which the players agree to, and the tribunal decided that Rio had indeed brought the game into disrepute with his tweet and levied the fine that they set out for that.

Very good points! However, the FA has their own rules, which the players agree to, and the tribunal decided that Rio had indeed brought the game into disrepute with his tweet and levied the fine that they set out for that.

To be fair, Jar Jar Binks technically didn't even call Cole a choc ice, he just agreed with someone who did. Anyway, £45k won't break the bank and I'm sure he and other footballers have learnt to be careful what they tweet.
You put the words "footballers" and "learnt" in the same post.
Classic!
