Moyes ?? FFS get a grip. He is bound for UTD at some point when Red Nose finally retires.

Giovanni Trapattoni after the Euros anyone?...
Won most everything at club level, don't know how long he's contracted to the Irish national team, but surely would be cheaper than compensating a club for an incumbent manager?

Edit...
Probably doesn't fit FSG's long term approach - he's older than I thought!

Liverpool FC bigwig (ex) this morning was touting Capello. Business blokey on TalkSport was saying that the ruthless way US businesses work he wouldn't be at all surprised to see them fly in the face of all expectation and appoint a US-based manager like Bruce Arena or Steve Nicol.

Pep - no chance, no chance whatsoever

Jose - as above

Capello - no exactly long term, but I have no doubts he'd do a job, would probably accept the appointment too

AVB - possibly, I can see points for and against, it will either be very good or very bad though, somehow.

Lambert - would be a great signing, doubt he's high enough profile for them though, organised, adaptable, tactically very good, great motivator, i'd love him at my own club

Martinez - good football, good manager, with money may be able to make an assualt on the european places?

Brendan - similar to Martinez, perhaps a better coach than manager? Liverpool have some decent players, need more of a manager than a coach. Swansea are not very adaptable - but then neither are Barcelona

I'm not a Liverpool fan, but i'm quite interested to see what they do.

Would be great if they got Mick McCarthy, Big Eck or Steve Bruce though hehe

A bit shocked this morning frown

I made a post a few months ago on here juxtaposing the business/owners point of view and the fans. From the owners perspective Top Four finishes and CL have to be the priorities, from the fans point of view though only silverware should ever matter. Ever. Comming 4th in the league should not matter didly fking squat compared to winning silverware.

To sack your manager after he wins you a cup, gets you into Europe and takes you to the final of the biggest domestic cup in the world is, to my mind, a little sad. There should be no football fan of any club anywhere in the world that supports such logic. I fully understand the business logic behind it and I can fully accept the decision to sack him from their view point. Its just a sad day for me as a fan that KK has been treated like that, still he can hold his head high and walk away proud, once again he has done a job.

So, to the future. I like Rafa, good manager, did us proud, but Im also weary of the "never go back" rule. His spell at Inter hasnt gone well and considering who he took over from and that we are also discussing him in the frame for the job, well the 2 do not bear well under comparison. As for Maureen...yes please, Ill take him quite happily. Possession football, passing it around, solid at the back...heaven! There is no reason for him to take the job either. He would be in Europe next year, he has foreign fairly hands off owners who will tell him to build the club how he sees fit and he will be targetting silverware immediately with the mandate of top four finish.

It's not often we see completely eye to eye on sporting matters DJ but you are spot fking on my friend. It is a very sad day when coming 3rd loser is regarded higher than winning fking trophies. It's fair to say that time is now upon us.

I'm hearing that the owners are saying they 'want to appoint someone for 4-5 years'. Yeah right - unless they finish outside the top fking four. rolleyes

I think that has more to do with the fact this will be there man and he will get time, obvious to me now that Kenny had 1 year to get us in the top 4 and if not they wanted there own young man in, who would be here for the long run.

I don't understand why it has to be one or the other. Winning the Carling Cup shouldn't mean you have to sacrifice a league campaign, especially when you've spent in the region of 120 million.

Its a shame Dalglish has been sacked. Even I would have preferred him to have gone gracefully upstairs. Its clear though that Dalglish has forced FSG's hand and now we're in another mess with no forward strategy. I'm not blaming Dalglish here, rather I think once more this shows FSG's naivety.

I must say that the existing premiership names making the headlines fill me with dread. The only name that has potential is AVB as I think the likes of Klopp will not come to us. As for Rafa, I don't doubt for one minute that he wouldn't want the job, nor that he would improve us. Its just that after Dalglish , Rafa would also be a solution from our past. I think its time we started looking to our future as well.

I think you sack your manager as much for what you think he can't/won't do in the future as much as for what he has/hasn't achieved.

...or if you think he's becoming (or trying to become) too powerful & gives you the "back me or sack me" line.....scratchchin

Maureen is in contract at Real
Peps not coming to the UK. Think he's one of those that actually means what he says too - he's on holiday for the forseeable.
Rafa No - Inter & Never go back
AVB - No, A bit bonkers, unproven & I think he'd end up with a repeat (with Gerrard) of what happened with Terry
Trap: Too old

ROgers, Martinez, Lambert - all too inexperienced.
Bruce, McCarthy, McLaren, McLeish etc all too crap.

Process of elimination says someone like Ranieri or Capello

'Liverpool On 1 July, AVB was appointed as new liverpool manager, after the departure of Kenny Dalglish in May. Eventually liverpool started their season terribly losing 6-1 to chelsea with Fernando Torres scoring a splendid hatrick. Liverpool later in the season defeated Manchester United 3-2 and eventually narrowly got relegated as they were 2 points behind West Ham united.'

For months you've banged on about getting Kenny out, while largely ignoring the fact that he would need to be replaced by *someone*. Now it's happened and the inevitable names are being bandied about and you're filled with dread? I'm sorry, but if it all goes to st, you'll just have to take your medicine Mystic Meg.

Jurgen Klinsmann or Stevie Nichol, both are stateside right now and have a good reputation over there.

I would like Frank Rijkaard.
