If it was just two or three people, Mick, then the mods should just ban them from Football forum. But i think you will find it more deep rooted than that?
Hence this thread?
The biggest problem is having so many different footballing clubs supporters,
for example, i wouldn`t come on PH and comment on the Suarez(Rat the Racist)episode, because i know it would cause up roar with most RS fans!
Instead i would go on a dedicated site, knowing that the chances are you could have a constructive debate.
Fair point but I could name three posters that if they were banned I'm sure these threads would run a lot smoother.
Agree.

I have changed my response to say we don't agree. smile
Well done!

Proportion!

Total disrespect for the Moderation.

That's my only and final comment.
You need the hide of a Rhino for sure yes

Its a bit like being a referee at an Premier League game, nobody likes you but without you there's no match.

Of course EPL refs can always think of the money whereas....

hehe

Seriously though, you do a tough job fella, thank you.

Well, i`m no grass, but, if a few members PM the same names and concerns to one of the Football forum mods, then they may be able to help?
Do it now, while it is current.

Indeed. And we have done. Which some seem to find unacceptable. But on the other hand complain and raise issues on other thread. Can't have it both ways smile

In my opinion., the problem is that football is such an emotive issue. People get carried away in the heat of the moment and overreact. It is the nature of football and its supporters to be prone to hyperbole.

Some posters take the game and comments from others about their team, far, far too seriously. They check their sense of humour in at the forum door marked "Football". I believe that the relative calm of the Spurs thread is due to the fact that we Spurs fans have a sense on proportion. Indeed, we disarm any 'wums' by agreeing with their contentions most of the time.

Once a thread has lost its sense of proportion, it seems to spin wildly out of control. No-one is able or willing to back down. Even though, they are usually merely discussing the minutiae of a game of football. Vicious attacks are launched over differing views about a pastime. A diversion from what is truly important in life. It is a shame that a few on here are unable to differentiate what is important in the whole scheme of things and what is not.

Football is not important. Really, it isn't. Not even the Champions' League. Honest.

I believe that a change of mindset among the more angst driven posters is the only way to keep the football forum going. So, proportion is the answer. It's only a bloody game.

Absolutely smack bang bullseye Blib. I love football and WH but it really doesn`t mean half of bugger all in the big picture. I`ve got plenty of real issues to deal with in life and getting the jibbering ahole on here ain`t one of them. I may have the odd sly dig at the Spuds but only in jest and they know that.

I doubt anyone gives a hoot but my opinion is ~ just hoof the offenders out. No need for any new rules or sanctions.

Agreed, not the way forward. This shouldn't be a who is popular contest.

It doesn't have to be a popularity contest.

There are plenty of posters across all of PH who I might not like, or agree with but can appreciate their point of view.

But there are also posters who I may agree with who put their point across so poorly it's easy to understand why their opinion causes problems.

Never. Not the sensible or right way to do it.

Plus, I'd be totally buggered anyway smile

However, that all said, I guess it's probably best to leave this thread specifically to Garlick paperbag

So last word on this one, I promise. But I do hope we get a solution quickly and get back on track and back to normal.

There's no doubt this is a tough nut to crack. Good luck Mr Garlick.

This football forum is pretty unique, whats the point on going on a one team forum where everyone agrees with each other ? & thats why i love the ph footie forum.

Banter , piss taking & general wuming is all part & parcel of being a football supporter & that will never change, Everyone is guilty of the odd wind up.Some people can take it better than others, Personal insults are the major concern for me.

If light hearted banter is going to be allowed then how will the banter be measured ?

Certainly going to be a tough job thats for sure

You banned one poster. You solved the problem. You let him back in. The problem returned.

I don't see how the two can mix, a great forum that allows wuming?

Perhaps you want something others don't?

Are you saying that you have never posted a post without the intention of a little wind up ?

Make the official team threads for the team supporters only. Will get rid of 90% of the "banter" and repeating arguments/debate that most of the actual fans know about, but non fans use intentionally to start arguments.

I don't know how tricky it would be to implement, but a a sticky at the top of the forum stating that the official threads are only for fans of that team would be pretty clear. The thread regulars will know who belongs in which thread, and the sign will be at the top of the forum, so there's no excuses.

I say that only because it worked on the Football 365 forums, and it was the only way to stop the trolling from opposite supporters. And there is an awful lot of that, whether any of them will admit it or not, it's just too obvious, and should be, even to a neutral.

I think it would definitely help. Unlike some on here, I don't come to the football section for "banter", I come to keep up to date with my team, I really don't care about any other teams. If people want to talk about the week's games and the other teams, they can do that in the general MOTD thread.

If that won't work, then a fresh start and final warning for everyone now, and then straight bans in the future.

It's not why I enjoy the section, sometimes the "banter" is tedious and strange.

ETA: You are aware of what happened on the Chelsea thread with people on the wind up!
