Sadly results like this have been coming with a while now. Hopefully its just a case of taking the eye off the ball and concentrating elsewhere.
Thats the best I can come up with this morning.

We could just as easily go to Bergamo next week and batter them 4-0. We could also meekly bow out and lose again. Who knows. But getting back on track in the PL is the most important.

We started well last night. Just very odd to see our wheels fall off quite so alarmingly. Atalanta's manager earned his salary last night, ultimately, as did his players. Not sure Klopp could quite believe how our players decided to do everything they're not supposed to do, last night.

But if we can have a rest from players coming out with the usual "we go again!" and "we must put it right" nonsense and just get on and win the next game, that would be nice.

Right now, finding someone to score just one goal and finding someone to keep a clean sheet is what we need. 3pts absolutely vital but also a good performance to help repair some of the mental damage last night's result would have done. It's been absolutely ages (perhaps not since Madrid last year) that I've woken up feeling absolutely rubbish about a result AND performance.
We've been piss poor in Europe for the past 2 seasons. We lost as many games in the group stages against weak opposition in this years EL as we have done so far in the entire league season.

I'm hoping Jota being back will sort thigs out in front of goal as believe that he could be the difference for the rest of the season. He's the only player in the squad who is consistently ruthless in front of goal which is exactly what we need when creating so many chances.

Clean sheets a much harder challenge, and one we've not been great at for some time. 15 times we've been behind in the league alone this season and our highest numbers are 8 for Virgil and 7 for Alisson. In comparison Saliba has had 14 clean sheets on his own, and Raya 12..

From what I saw last night your forwards couldn't hit a barn door in that match. Really strange but you've been having some close matches/draws recently which probably indicated that things aren't going quite as well at the moment

At the start of the season I hoped for top 4 and a trophy. I think that's what we're doing to get, albeit 3rd in the league. Arsenal and City are dominant and ruthless in a way that we haven't been for what feels like a long time.

We've been lacking a cutting edge for a while and we give up far too many goals, many of them soft. The two games against Man U and now this Atalanta debacle have been hard to stomach.

The team selection last night was baffling. A horrible gamble in a competition we could win. There seems to be some sort of misplaced belief that we'll win some of these games just by turning up. We got battered. I can't imagine that Atalanta won't score at least one in the return leg, which means we need to score 5 against a team well capable of sitting deep and playing on the break.

Whoever comes in is going to want reassuring that there's a transfer fund available.

As a total neutral I want to see Liverpool play at Anfield under Klopp. I decided to skip last night and go for a ticket for the Benfica gamebiggrin Looks like I may have had a lucky and costly escape.

As for those of you casting doubt on Klopp...... Just remember the days of Hodgson and Rodgers.

They may still be up for three trophies, but there is only one important one.

Adam.

Agreed.

I had the same hopes/expectations at the start but as the season went on you can't help but hope for more.

the last few games have made me revert to the start!!

Last night was godawful, with Jota's re-appearance the only plus

I'm not convinced it's the players that are the problem personally. We're seeing holes in the tactical and coaching approach IMHO that are being compounded by a period of poor form for our attackers.

20 times we've gone behind in games early this season now, and this has been going on since the start of last season. We could definitely do with an upgrade at 6, but I struggle to believe bringing in a new left sided CB or LB is going to suddenly rectify the bigger issue. We're tactically far too easy for sides (especially the good ones) to play against and rely way too much on our creative players dragging us out of trouble, which as we are seeing is unsustainable in the long term.

This is why I'm actually excited to see someone new come in this summer and inject some fresh ideas. We can't go on looking like two different teams either side of half time.

You can't help but get excited when progressing on all fronts, but we've been here before. Perhaps fighting for everything is self defeating when it actually comes to winning things.

We could have won the FA Cup, but whimpered out of that.
We could win the Europa, but that looks unlikely now.
The League looks like a massive challenge from here.

To be honest, it really doesn't matter whether anyone casts doubt on Klopp, no one would be calling for him to be sacked, he's leaving whether we like it or not.

Anyone casting doubt on Klopp, let alone the sack is an absolute imbecile.

That’s a polite way to say it.

I reckon putting my own thoughts in to words here would see me banned.

You see that thing online every time we have a loss. That's fandom ultimately. Klopp will probably go down in our history as the manager we had that most connected with the community - not just from his personality but the increased community work the club does now. Shankly was a "man of the people" but that community stuff wasn't so much a thing back then. Or at least wasn't reported on.

And along the way he brought the club's team and structure back to being that of a top club, won a few things along the way. And left on his own terms.

Not bad really. In fact.. "Boom!"

I think at this point, we all know the pluses and minuses of Klopp. He certainly feels the players let him down on Thursday.

1 of the quotes I saw suggested something like he had no idea they could be that bad.

Ultimately the coach coaches - the players still have to do what they would normally do on the pitch. Clearly they didn't this time. That's not him pushing the blame onto the players - at least that's not how it came across. Ultimately if we lose or win, it's everyone together.

Sorry, that has to be King Kenny, partly through the tragedy that he had to go through.

Thats why we're not winning the league laugh just relentless in this run in year after year.
Exactly at the same time that we're playing the worst I have seen in a long time.

Still, stranger things have happened.

2 pts behind with a game in hand.... most fans dream of this.

Way too much negativity that on here that we can't win the league. Tomorrow will tell us a lot IMO - either it's business as usual and nothing changes - in which case I'm more inclined to regretfully agree or we come out hungry, determined and get the performance and result that shows that we are very much contenders and absolutely want it. Let's see but let's not write us off just yet.
