Based on the last few games, that's just not going to happen

I’d take a deflected back pass and to win 1-0 frown

It’s not even a few games, we’re more surprised we’re in this position given the performances through most of the year. It’s been an odd one where we often don’t expect to win most games but mostly do. The season we won the league we all expected to win every match and it was a surprise if we dropped points the way the team played.

Agree with that. Strange season, it's been. We've never looked close to the form we had when we actually did win the league. Football that year was often just beautiful to watch.

We've basically just continued defensively from last season but have got away with it due to improvements in midfield and our attacking players being more productive.

You can't keep winning after going behind in almost 40% of your games and expect it to last. Need to be far more solid at the back in the first 15 minutes as giving ourselves a mountain to climb far too often.

That last 15 stat is mental. No wonder Klopp is knackered.

That’s just not true...

Last season we conceded 47 in 38 games, something like 7th or 8th. This year we’re at 30 after 31. We have the 2nd lowest goals conceded in the league, better than City and only behind Arsenal…. we’ve clearly been much better defensively.

Goals conceded isn't the point of what I posted Chris, it's when we are conceding and the pressure that places on us to score 2 or more goals to rescue a result that is unsustainable.

I honestly don't think our back 4 has improved very much despite the numbers, we just have a midfield better at protecting them this season and an attack that is causing more problems at the other end which also relieves pressure as pins teams back in their own half. We're still far too easy to pick apart, especially for the better teams.

The Brighton game was a perfect example. Concede after 2 minutes and then don't take the lead until the latter stages whilst giving up multiple chances. We've been fortunate that our keepers have been superb and Man City have also conceded considerably more goals than usual for them (32). Look back to 21/22 and we both conceded only 26 goals in total and at current rates could both end this season 10+ worse than that.

Different players have different strengths against different teams. Jones has played well in the PL this season.

Pretty much full strength with the bench.

Personally, with the exception of Jones over Szoboszlai, I would say that is our strongest starting XI.

Jota & Elliott work brilliantly off the bench. Won’t be watching the game as currently skiing, so hoping to at least not concede the first goal today!

What has Szoboszlai offered us this year, since he returned back from injury? He's been very average. Klopp perhaps sending a message.

Good grief, I’m not sure what some people expect.

Our best attacker isn’t quite at the ‘best in the world’ level he was, and his supporting crew isn’t the quality of Mane and Bobby, so our relatively new MF has to do more in support than Hendo/Fab/Gini did… and our CH is older, and has been partnered by a kid for half the season.

Despite this we play exciting, open, attacking football week in week out, have the 2nd lowest goals against, 3rd highest goals for, we’ve won a cup, and are still in another plus we’re in a single point battle for the prem.

What do you want? Conte football?

I didn’t miss you saying you’re looking forward to Klopp going, I just thought it didn’t deserve a response.
