I don't think it has backfired on them, as La Liga are looking at the bigger picture and the future of La Liga long term, not the future of just a couple of years in the future which is all the President's of Barca and RM look ahead......as with any elected person, they look only as far as their term of office.
It's an awful deal in every way though, a 50 year commitment to. Give CVC 10% of all league revenue in exchange for CVC stumping up 2.7bil now, I think some estimates put CVC at earning £200billion plus over the term of the deal. It makes no sense.honda_exige said:

Sensible or not, if at least 75% of the clubs vote in favour of it tomorrow, then it will be clear that its makes enough sense to the majority of the clubs.
It could go through as many clubs are in the midst of a cash crunch. Fantastic timing and predatory strategy by CVC but hey that's business. Even if it does go through there will probably be many drawn out legal battles. LaL is a proper mess right now.

I'd definately put the blame at the door of Bartomeu, paying the players stupid wages, making some ridiculous transfers (The money they paid for Coutinho was ridiculous) and he has also made a mess of their academy so how Barca develop players isn't what it should be either. The club are a mess and from what I've read a lot of it is down to his management.
The problem now is that transfers have got to the financial levels where, if it doesn't work out and the player doesn't perform for whatever reason, it's potentially crippling. £130-odd million on Coutinho wouldn't have looked so bad if he was the next Iniesta. Likewise Griezmann.
See also Hazard at Madrid.
Jack Grealish is on a 5 year deal at Man City. If he doesn't perform and refuses to leave, it will cost them £160m in fee and wages.

I have to say, from what I've seen, he seems over-rated.
But, we digress.....

Rumours are Barcelona are willing to loan Coutinho to Lazio....but still pay 1/2 his wages. Imagine not having an asset and still paying what, £500k/month? Terrible management ![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)
The mismanagement is staggeringly bad, I really don’t understand how they have managed to get themselves in such a pickle. I’ve read all the angles on it, but it still doesn’t register with me how it could happen. Mental state of affairs.![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)

That happens with a huge amount of loaned players, nothing unusual or daft about it. ![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)

Arguments about who's better between Messi and Ronaldo will never stop. Some people prefer one of them to the other. They're both amazing players. Let's just leave it at that.
May stop if Messi wins the world cup and plays a lead role? As its one of the ultimate achievements. Argentina won the Copa a few months ago, so team is strong.BrabusMog said:

They spent a huge amount of money on Coutinho and Dembele (250m) in the same transfer window and both flopped. Then a few years later spent 100m on Griezemen which hasn’t really worked out. Plus you add in the wages they offered them as part of the deal, all on 5/6 year contracts your going to screw your self over.
They have been very poorly run no doubt but there's a lot of politics involved. With a normal year they would've met the income to wage requirements although they were still a basket case.
Covid screwed them with the reduced income. Now most leagues have relaxed the income/expenditure ratio in view of temporarily depressed revenue due to covid.
LaLiga under Tebas however haven't, as they had a CVC deal they wanted all the clubs to sign up for. By not relaxing the ratio it pushed the big clubs into a corner. Tebas assumed that Barca would be so allergic to losing Messi they would sign the deal, and the new president of Barca Laporta was intitally very happy with the CVC deal and was about to sign. People then pointed out how bad the deal was long term and he made the big (and correct) decision to reject the deal and lose Messi.
