One of the benefits of all the change is my expectations aren't as high as normal, simply because it takes time to settle.

I'd be happy with top 4 next season and that's it.
100%

The new CL/EL format is certainly going to spice things up for qualifying teams next season. 8 games against 8 different teams (4 home, 4 away) and potentially a 2 legged play-off before you even get to the knock out stages in January. That's a lot of football in the first few months of the season, especially for any squad with lot of players on international duty in the summer (Euro's + Copa America).

Not the best time for a manager change in all honesty. frown

In summer where your players aren't all off on international duty for 4-6 weeks and there are significant changes to a competition that requires even more games and pressure on the squad in the first few months than usual?

I thought my previous post had already explained my thinking TBH. Limited time to work with them in pre-season, tired + injured players coming back from international duty, additional games to play and even more travel than usual in the first few months of the season. All extra challenges to overcome at the end of the day.

We also have the potential contract issues with Mo, Virgil and Trent to sort out.

Personally I don't think any time is the right time. There will always be time needed to implement the new managers ideas etc regardless of summer of football, tiredness etc. Contracts etc will probably be handled Hughes now. Every club will be in the same boat regarding a reduced pre-season too.

The new manager will need time, probably a whole new season, to fully implement his ideas, getting new players in etc, getting used to the PL (if it is Slot that is confirmed). So now is good as any for a new manager to come in IMO.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Gomez; Endo, Elliott, Mac Allister; Salah, Diaz, Gakpo

Substitutes: Kelleher, Konate, Bradley, Tsimikas, Bajcetic, Jones, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Nunez

Interesting that Nunez, Konate and Szoboszlai are all STILL benched. Their form has been poor so good to see that Klopp sticking with practically the same team vs Spurs.

Completely against the run of play, but it’s not like that’s unexpected this season.

Excellent defending by Quansah when Watkins through on goal. Made it look like a poor shot by Watkins but Quansah read it well, positioned himself well and got a simple but very effective block in.

VAR still WAY too slow. This should be automated within milliseconds.

Get in, finally!

VAR… how on earth does it take so long to make a simple off side decision?

I don't understand that VAR process. One is either offside or not when the ball is played not when one receives it. In that process they were looking at Gomez with the ball at his feet i.e. when he received it. When the ball was played t him he was easily onside. Surely they got that wrong or have I missed something? And yes Gakpo was behind the ball but it's the first phase of the potential offside that VAR were looking at that I'm querying.

At that stage they were checking whether Gakpo was on. (I think they check the frame in which the ball is passed)

Well I presume they were - fk knows what those clowns think they are doing really.
