What a time to be a Villa fan, I haven't seen football like this at Villa Park for 15 years, it's great to see us actually having an identity to our style of play, everyone knows their role and it feels like they're all united. Emery really has done a great job, our biggest challenge now will be holding on to him and our best players in the summer.

Brentford fan here - i am seriously worried about playing you guys on Saturday!

We haven't been at our best lately, and I can honestly see you guys giving us a bit of a pounding.

The way you played against newcastle made newcastle look mid table, you played them off the park.

Glad to see Ollie Watkins doing what he did for us, he really has done well since Emery came in (whole team has). Think momentum is with you and 6th is achievable.

Ollie has come on leaps and bounds since Emery joined us. It is great to see, Ollie is a very likeable pro, works very hard, speaks very well and is modest. 6th place is possible for us, but it will be incredibly hard. I think Spurs will drop down a few places by the end of the season and us, Brighton and Liverpool will be fighting it out for 5th, 6th and 7th

As for Saturday - we always fear going to the Gtech. We do not have a good record at your place. I would not underestimate Brentford - you are a good side and play well. However on current form I would not bet against us.

Here's to a good game with no VAR clangers or dodgy decisions. I do hope we beat you though wink

Was at VP last night. Good first half performance, with plenty of possession, passing and attacking intent, particularly out wide. Ceded possession in the second half and reverted to a more Gerrard style of narrow set-up and long ball clearances from Martinez using Watkins as a target man, which we all know is just not his forte. I guess it helped defend the lead, keep Fulham at bay and avoided any costly defensive mistakes when playing out from the back as Emery usually prefers. TBH Fulham only managed one shot in the entire match and that wasn’t even on target, so you can’t argue with the outcome. I guess it’s good to know that Emery can be flexible with his system during the course of a match. 5th place (even temporarily!) is ridiculously good considering where we were. Even 7th at the end of the season would be miraculous.

I wonder whether Emery might resist the lure of a bigger club. He’s doing well at Villa and the pressure is off him really to a large extent. If he has got the players united and working towards a common goal then that’s a good achievement. Being at a big club is fine but the pressure is immense and he’s been there with mixed results. From your POV (and his) could be a marriage made in heaven …

I'm thinking the same. He is under very little pressure, and the fans will be very patient with him, unlike at Arsenal and he will have the funds and backing here. He seems a loyal chap and the sort who wants to finish what he started so I can't see him being tempted off.
We have the means to match any salary offer any other club makes, its up to Unai them as to how far the club can progress.

Fairly tenuous effort but here goes: anyone close to Brum got two spares sat together for tomorrow's Spurs game, but can't make it for any reason?

I'm visiting Brum from the South tonight (Reading) and would love to take my 8yo lad, it's the last home game of the season that we can make.

Happy to pay the cost of the seats and leave a security deposit if anyone has a couple of match tickets or season tickets that they cannot use for any reason tomorrow.

PM me if possible.

I would put a wider appeal out on Twitter but there are already loads of scammers on there so I want to avoid all of those shenanigans.

I eventually procured some tickets in the Lower Holte in the end via the official club resale process, fantastic seats right behind the goal, took my 8yo lad for the first time, he had an absolute ball. Alas because they were premium seats they do not discount them for kids on resale, so I had to pay full adult whack, but worth it as we can only make a few games a season in person.

It is so good to see a Villa team playing with so much confidence. The transformation under Unai Emery is nothing short of remarkable! I have seen us comfortably beat Man U and Spurs at home this season, that would never have happened under Gerrard.

On a PH note, trains weren’t running after the game due to the strike so we walked towards Perry Barr to grab an Uber, the driver somewhat foolishly then drove us back into gridlock around Witton. However whilst sat in a massive jam we did happen across Douglas Luiz exiting a backstreet car parking location in his Lamborghini. Rather disappointingly our Uber driver didn’t let him out into the traffic! rolleyes

Nice one. Just before the Bournemouth game a few weeks ago, we saw Philippe Coutinho arriving at the stadium car park in his black Mercedes AMG G-Wagen. He was out injured, but still braved the traffic and selfie-seeking fans to watch the game.

7th in the table as we go into the final game, I'll take that!

We were 17th in the table with only 9 points from 11 games when Gerrard was sacked. Emery has amassed a further 49 points from his 26 games to date.

Gerrard points per game: 0.81
Emery points per game: 1.88

It's a fairly impressive turnaround, no?

We just need to do better than Spurs and Brentford on Sunday to secure 7th.

Spurs have Leeds who are fighting to stay up, they need a win and other results to go in their favour. Massive game for Leeds, everything is going wrong at Spurs, I see Big Same getting them out of jail here and Villa benefitting from that.

Brentford have Man City, I can't see them winning that.

Can we beat Brighton? They are absolutely flying, very entertaining to watch but we are on fire at Villa Park so I can't split them. A 2-2 draw maybe?

We are away camping in the New Forest with sketchy mobile cover so I won't even get to watch it on Sky Go, gah!

I can't wait for this new season to start. Three very good and well proven signings so far. European football. Unai Emery. It's all coming together for what could be the best season we've seen at Villa Park since the turn of the Millennium.

I've gone and took a Season Ticket offer in the Upper Holte via the 'Terrace View' package. It's on the pricey side but having a guaranteed seat in the heart of the atmosphere was too big an opportunity to pass up while I'm sat at 18000 on the waitlist anyway. Plus being a ST holder I'll actually be able to get a ticket to a couple of away games this season, finally! Love an away day.

I think we need backup in that right back position now and a replacement for Olsen as number 2 GK, that man does not fill me with any confidence at all.

Yep, excellent signings, and a steal for all three. Brilliant business.

Looking forward to the season. Agree on Olsen, we need better cover for Dibu. Going to be a lot of games this season, we need to rotate. We also need cover/competition for Cash at RB. Would like to see Archer given some game time this season too.

Also looking forward to seeing the new North Stand in a couple of seasons. We are going to need that capacity increase.

Really looking forward to the season, as you say, likely to be the best for a long time.

Been a long time since I've been this excited for the start of a new season. Agree that all we need now is a RB to compete with Cash and reserve keeper as Olsen is shockingly bad

Without wanting to get too far ahead of ourselves, we are looking pretty good in pre season. Can we win this Premier league summer tournament?

As a Wolves fan looking towards Wolverhampton and seeing the st state we seem to be in, even unable to do our "Plan B" apparently due to FFP, looking the opposite direction towards Birmingham and seeing the things Villa are doing means I hate you all hehe

I can see you actually finishing slightly lower this season (top 10 still) as no doubt you'll go all out in Europe instead, which you'd probably be favourites for no doubt, so I'm sure you won't care much biggrin

Obviously we would like to finish as high up the table as possible as well as win the Conference League (well, if West Ham can do it.....)

It's a shame about Wolves as I want all the Midlands teams to do well (apart from Small Heath, obviously), just less well than Villa hehe . Yes we have banter between the clubs but I would much rather see the likes of Wolves, Forest, Leicester, West Brom doing well in the prem than some of the current teams.
