This year is different. Normally we are 10 points behind Chelski and Manure, this year actually ahead, in terms of Utd perhaps 15/20 where we normally are against them.

Rafa is no longer tinkering!
agree but for 2 points, Utd are notorious slow starters to a season

it can't be long until he does - he's worse than Ranieri

Liverpool have always been capable of winning big games tactically/boringly and with a certain amount of luck - 30 yarders wink Now they're fielding a regular team, with only relatively small changes, they seem to be very controlled and well organised week in week out, and although they're not that exciting, they're doing a job.

Perhaps the same could be said of Chelsea when Mourinho took over?

They're full of confidence too, I think their Champions League campaign will suffer unfortunately, but the League is of upmost importance to Liverpool this year. On paper the team looks good, whether the depth is there to aim for all competitions remains to be seen.

In my opinion.

Don't bet against them.

Watching the title starved Liverpool fans at Stamford Bridge yesterday was a revelation. I've never seen such joy. Did you win the league yesterday or something ?

Great start to the season, I must say. Though, I'd put money on United being above you by the turn of the year.

I agree, but we (LFC) are even worse and for as long as I can remember at this stage of the season we have always been at least 2 or 3 wins behind Utd, but fact is we aren’t this year, and its not a false position as we have had difficult fixtures. Now, I’m not getting over excited and I know we have won jack, but at least we are not out the race yet. On your second point ALL managers will tinker as the season and champs league develops. Its funny how Rafa has this reputation but in fact Torres was dropped (when not injured) less times than Ronando least year and in fact Utd dropped more points that LFC in those games. Its the same with this zonal marking at corners, don’t get mentioned now...but I bet the first time we do conceded a goal from the papers it will be the fault of zonal...its madness, utter madness I say!!

last Monday it was all Chelsea will walk the league - only half the squad fit and they still score 5 goals away from home

today it's they are still missing key players and without them they won't win anything

make your fking minds up!!!

watching the game we had far more posession than you but didn't do anything in the final third - the second half was summed up by Cole having the only clear cut chance and he sliced it from 8 yards out

TBH I hope it's a great four way fight for the season and as always it's the best team that wins smile

I agree some are going over the top and I know we have won nothing and in fact I'd still put money on Chelsea, but give us a break, was a huge win and nice to stop that great record..might give the rest of the teams some belief at the Bridge now.

I don’t think Utd with be above us come the end of May let alone December, we have good fixtures coming up now. Also, CR won't have the season he had last year, no way...he will never top that but to be fair it did bring them the double so he has done his bit before he heads off to Real. IMHO of course!

Agreed, Chelsea has looked fantastic up to now and will no doubt win their next game 4-0, but without Joe Cole and Drogba (not Ballack so much) it was a bit predicable and it was the most comfortable we have been against them. We didn’t create alot but then again show me a team that does against them?

Non LFC fans won't quite be able to understand the way we're all feeling.

The difference this year is startling. Beating the mancs without Gerrard(for most of the game) or Torres, and beating Chelsea without Torres, goals now coming from more than two sources. Mascherano nows allows Gerrard to get forward without over-exposing our defence. The belief is now very strong.

I agree with the guy who posted earlier that our Champions League progress might suffer, but IMO that's a price worth paying for a serious challenge in the Premier League.

Imagine how good we'd be with half decent fullbacks................

While I agree it's way too early to get carried away, there are already many positives to take from the season so far.

- beating Man Utd without Torres and, for most of the game, Gerrard
- beating Everton away from home
- ending Chel$ki's 86 home game unbeaten record (again, without Torres)
- being able to win after conceding first

Our fixtures haven't been easy either; Man United and Chelsea, away to Everton, Aston Villa and Manchester City (both Villa and City looking to break into the 'top 4').

I'm not getting carried away, but I'm more than happy with our start so far smile
If I was a Liverpool fan, it would be the games against the smaller teams I'd be worried about. The win against Man Utd was followed by a draw against Stoke, for example.
Same old, same old. For the last 10 years we've had good results against big teams only to drop them against the lesser ones. Bear in mind that LFC scored a valid goal against Stoke that was chalked off - although they still had 86 mins to score another. The other dropped points were when he played for 0-0 at Villa.

Let's wait until March before we start thinking the title is obtainable.

I think the happiness was having knocked Chel$ki off their perch. Plus, to show them how true fans do behave - how embarrassing that Chel$ki supporters had to be told how to wave their (free) scarves by the stadium announcer laugh

I'm not gunna get too carried away and say it's our year this year.

It's certainly the strongest team we've had in a while, though.

We're still a long way from having a team capable of dominating the league.

Benitez has wasted a lot of money on, just, average players. Benayoun, Pennant, Dossena, Aurelio etc.

Financially, we can't compete with Man Utd or Chelsea, so he has to spend wisely.

You just have to look at the impact Torres has made. OK, he was £20mill, but that's the type of player we need to be signing.

Unfortunately, we can't afford a squad of £20mill players.

I wasn't sure on Riera to start with, but he's quickly changed my mind.

we're still 3-4 signings away from seriously worrying teams.

I'd say Ferry has a more realistic POV with respect to your season

no one has every won the league in October

Yes he does, my comment about having the league stitched up was made in a state of drunken exuberence.

Liverpool are NOT however, same old, same old this season.
