Mansfield Town are planning a tribute tomorrow it seems.

Mansfield Town will pay a poignant tribute to the Liverpool fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough when the Reds travel to Field Mill for Sunday's FA Cup third round tie.

Cards bearing the names of each of the 96 supporters who died at the tragedy in April 1989 will be placed on the empty seats which separate home and away fans at the ground.

Paul Broughton, Mansfield's operations director, explained: "We wanted to do something in light of what has happened this year in terms of Hillsborough and as it's been so long since the two sides met.

"One of our fans suggested we place a name on each of the empty seats in the segregation section of the stadium. The idea sent shivers down my spine. It was an amazing idea."

Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, said: "I felt moved when I heard that Mansfield had planned this tribute.

"To me, it sums up where we are at, in terms of how everyone around the country is starting to realise what we have known for a long time about Hillsborough.

"It will be a lovely gesture and I think it's entirely appropriate for us going forward in our fight for justice. It means a great deal and I would like to thank Mansfield on behalf of the HFSG for what will be a beautiful gesture to the 96."

I would have posted in the Mansfied town thread but they do not appear to have one.....

What a brilliant idea for a tribute. Class, Mansfield, class.

How about when members on a topic (no names mentioned wink ) get out of hand, those members are removed instead of closing the topic and spoiling it for the majority who use it within the forum rules. wink

I tried this. I got dog's abuse from all and sundry by e-mail and a (thankfully now banned) member actually fabricated a fake profile via a proxy server in the US solely to abuse me. One thread on this forum took up 90% of my time. I applaud Gaz's action. Time some posters on here learnt how to behave decently.

I moderate on a police forum, when a member gets out of hand on a topic, they are banned from that topic, they can't even read it, let alone participate in it.

I thought the yellow/red card system was going to be used, don't think that was used at all. To be honest I couldn't give a damn if it wasn't opened again, although it did make interesting reading.

It does seem a little unfair to those who had a sensible point of view to put across.

I thought this was agreed too.

I never saw any of the main protaganists from either side get an in public warning, although I appreciate this may have taken place behind closed doors.

Of course you could always ban the 4 or 5 main culprits again from both sides of the arguments, just don't let them post in the football forum. This way they'd also miss out on other football threads they enjoy contributing too.

It'd reduce the amount of posts in the thread but we'd all rather have a thread thats only posted in a couple of times a day than no thread at all or one filled with bilge.

Anyway I guess this isn't the correct place to discuss it.

It's a strange thread that has got really toxic. Its not even about what is said anymore rather who said it.

Take the FA Cup thread yesterday and Flip Martian's comment about RvP. Now if someone had said something similar about say Suarez there would have been multiple posters wading in and no doubt emails fired off to the mods. It's a far touchier thread than any other.

As for the abuse Ferg got last time by some fake account member, still no idea who it was. Or the accusations of bias towards Smart Man or indeed any other Mod that dares to stand up to a group of posters. All of this is really unacceptable.

The other football threads just don't even come close.

It got toxic with the constant childish baiting of fellow posters with the silly made up names and constant negativity towards the club from supposed supporters and now it has been spoilt for the rest of us Liverpool supporters who were not even involved but liked to read our clubs thread .

Name and shame them. Then the rest of us can see who is ruining the Liverpool thread/football forum.

If their whining is made public, it might make them think twice in the future. or if it's that bad, they'll, hopefully, be so embarrassed, they'll stop posting or go quiet for a while.

I thought more banning of members would take place before the entire thread would be closed again.

I agree.

Why not just ban the people who are at fault.

I know one regular poster got a perma ban but that was all I've seen.

Did any of the 'non-toublemakers' made an effort on the thread to moderate those who had this ridiculous back and forth, tit-for-tat feud? It seems to me that no-one on that thread really took the time to post 'give it a rest lads', or words to that effect? Maybe that would have been the best thing and try to stop it before the mods had to step in themselves and ban people or shut the thread?

Its the job of mods to moderate and if needs be ban , not the contributors / lurkers / trolls and yes people did attempt to calm things also the only bans I see are the the people who complain about the thread closing not the original idiots polluting the thread .
