and Pep Lijnders is writing a diary. Nothing controversial of course but some might find it interesting. Training camp day 1:

Any rumours of substance about at the moment?
We have a thread on RedCafe which collates all 'decent' transfer tweets across the various 'reliable' accounts and only thing I've seen was mention of Saul from Atletico a couple of days ago, but he was also linked with us, struggled in the first team and didnt make the Spain squad so may be his agent touting him outPersonally, if there is cash for one more first team signing, I'd like to see us get an improvement on Bobby certainly in terms of scoring.
We are still top heavy in midfielders, Keita, Hendo and Ox returning and Curtis coming through, I can't see a replacement for Wij. Thiago now bedded in too. We'll probably see more in the way of sales with fringe players leaving; Karius, Grujic, Neco, Wilson, Origi to name a few potential candidates.

FSG devil's advocate hat on. Apparently we've signed three new defenders and two new midfielders.
Can't wait to see VvD, Gomez, Matip, Keita and Ox play this season.
Keita I've given up on seeing any return on our investment.
The Ox? Fingers crossed but the odds on him regaining his pre injury form and fitness is slim.
Gomez needs to kick on and really cement that CB position, he wouldn't be in my first 11 if everyone is fully fit.
VVD only has to be 50% of the player he was and he'd still be the best CB in the league.
According to Klopp today, Gomez, Virgil, Matip and Trent are all on separate "still coming back from injury" programmes and not in full training with everyone else yet. Sounds like Virgil and Gomez are still a few weeks away from that but all going well so far.
A few promising kids at the camp too - including Ian Rush's great-nephew, Owen Beck, who's just been handed a 5 year contract - his 3rd new contract in a year - and Mateusz Musialowski, who has been called "a Polish Eden Hazard". Big things expected from both. But probably not next season. The future is bright.

Probably our main needs are a CB and a striker. We have a big risk VvD might not be nearly as good coming back from a huge injury, and the others are still injury prone. Up front it was goals we struggled with a lot of the end of last season, so a potential Bobby replacement might help.

I’ll look out for them going out on loan for the next four seasons before being sold on for 10m. /cynicalepom said:
