Williams will deffo go on loan somewhere I suspect. I would sell Matip, as much as I like him, just because..."injuries"! We badly needed him once VD and Gomez were out - and he got crocked again. BUT - I suspect he will stay and Phillips will get sold, assuming JK wants to play a high line. A wee bit shoddy a reward for what he did last season but I guess understandable.

Reading what Pep says about developing the players, you would think they'll end up invincible...

Pretty inspiring stuff although I don’t suppose he is going to write “they all look a bit fat and lazy”

They're all monitored with exercise programs over the summer break. Don't think they could get fat and lazy even if they wanted to laugh

I wasn’t being serious I meant his blog is only going to be positive

Fingers crossed everyone is fighting fit the start next season esp VVD

I’d settle for that and on Jota-like signing

And Ben Davies is still on the scene. He may end up leaving without playing.

Are the number of fans in the stadium back to normal next season?

For my 50th, my brother got us tickets to see Paul Weller in Liverpool on 19th November. I'd also love to attend the Liverpool v Arsenal game on 20th but the hospitality tickets are sold out.

I seem to remember a guy on Facebook who could get tickets for a premium. Does anyone have his details? I know it's a long shot but any other suggestions on how to get two tickets would be most welcome. Thanks

Yeah but his point was VVD and Gomez are a risk after such a long layoff.

Matip is barely worth mentioning, he simply can't stay fit.

I think they could really benefit with another to go above pecking order of Matip, Philips and Williams.

6 x CBs (incl 1 new signing) - actually 7, incl the lad from Preston we signed at the same time as Kabak that got injured and never played, and they're not enough? Unless we flog/send out on loan at least 3, it seems unlikely they'll buy another.

You did watch last season right? It's going to be a risk going into a season with an unknown VvD, and the other 3 top choices being known injury-prone players over several seasons now.

Yeah. How often does that happen? Last season was compressed with more games in a shorter time span. A unique season. Given covid isn't going away, God knows how it will affect this season - but at least we seem to be starting on time this year.

Never mind LAST season. Look at EVERY season.

Virgil's injury was a freak occurrence (Pickford being the freak, for not getting punished for it). How many CBs are out for long periods of time every season? No reason whatsoever that this will happen again. I've already said with Matip being the most injury prone, I would sell him on. Virgil will take time to be anything like what he was. Konate presumably has been brought in as a higher quality CB above the likes of the Williams and Phillips and possibly Matip too. I doubt we'll see Virg and Gomez pairing up every week.

As I said - without moving on some of the CBs lower down the pecking order, they're unlikely to buy another one, given how many they have now.

I personally wouldn't get rid of Matip. When he's fit, he is a solid defender. He has loads of PL experience, Konate would benefit from his experience in training and we got him on a free - a replacement will cost us more and maybe not have that experience especially as 3rd/4th choice.

What needs to happen IMO is that Klopp and Co need to better manage his game time, training, warm down etc.

A season or two before that we were also playing random people at CB for some of the season. It's not just about last season, it's that we have 3 injury prone defenders (not just last season) and 1 who was probably the best in the world before, but is coming back from a major injury so may well be nothing like he was again, considering how bad it was (it was mentioned he was still in recovery training a few weeks ago).

I would be moving one on potentially, if we can find a good replacement.

Gomez, if you remember, was pretty poor as well last season when he was playing - he was really taking a while to get match sharp from his previous injury. Konate, at least, is a level or 2 above what we had in reserve last season, once Virgil, Gomez and Matip were all crocked. Not enough on his own, but I suspect all 3 of those will get some rotation to manage their fitness. With 4 decent level CBs, we should be able to rotate pretty well. Not a fan of rotation tbh but it may be necessary, at least for the first part of the season.

Shouting for us to sign more CB’s when we already have 6 or 7 is just daft.

We can only carry 25 players in the squad... 10 of them can’t be CB’s just in case we have another freak injury season.

There’s zero chance we’re going to sign any more CB’s.

I never said that - I said I'd be looking at that position most, and potentially a striker to replace Bobby. They'd be replacements for someone already there, not just an additional member of the squad. It was in discussion about where we'd strengthen most in the team with signings this summer. I think either up front (goal drought relatively last year) or injury prone defence is the best options. Midfield we have quite a few versatile options still.

Grujic is first gone. Permanent deal to FC Porto. Hopefully not the last.
