Wow, interesting team selections from both sides tonight.
Man United include Tom Lawrence (on loan with us at Yeovil Town this season) and James Wilson while Hull name their strongest players on the bench ahead of the Cup Final.
Man Utd starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Buttner, Carrick, Fellaini, Kagawa, Januzaj, Lawrence, Wilson.

So, between the 5 you mention, JB, 40% didn't cut it. Hardly a team effort from the chosen few. It's fruitless slagging off the players who weren't on the pitch.
Perhaps if there were more United players involved, England may have progressed. After all, they have won a lot in football and not been nearly men.
Guess we'll never know.
Nope, we'll never know and I hope we never find out.Perhaps if there were more United players involved, England may have progressed. After all, they have won a lot in football and not been nearly men.

Out of Carrick, Jones, Smalling, Welbeck, Young and Cleverley I would have only taken Carrick. The others are fringe international players and nothing more but I do think England leaving Carrick behind was a mistake. We aren't exactly blessed with quality and experience in that position, are we?
Agree about Johnson though. He is bloody awful and getting worse.

There's plenty in favour of keeping club formations and tactics together in a national side. The English core of Liverpool could have done a better job than the XI who played. But as you say, Hodgson thought he knew better.
Maybe a Terry Cahill Cole defence would have done better too. All water under the bridge now though.
Tried and failed in the 70s with the then dominant Liverpool team.Maybe a Terry Cahill Cole defence would have done better too. All water under the bridge now though.
I agree though just selecting the 'best players' is not a good recipe, selecting players who function as a team is more important.

Van Gaal to start soon as our Manager, on the back of spanking Brazil in Brazil.
I'm really looking forward to next season
Same here. He makes me feel more confident then I ever did with Moyes as manager, and he's clearly got the mentality of a winner. I'm really looking forward to next season

I have to agree. The sarcastic cheering when he touched the ball was cringe worthy, the booing was disgraceful as well. Some of our home fans are annoying as fk.
Really felt for him and delighted he scored.
Must be something going round then.Really felt for him and delighted he scored.
My team (Yeovil Town) signed a player last season who had been playing in Step 14 of the football pyramid just a year previously. Tall, gangly, awkward looking kid who was 20 years old and had gone from Step 14 to Step 6 (Conference South) then to us in the Championship.
Nowadays, he gets jeered sarcastically when he wins a header, loud cheers when he's taken off and groans when he misses a chance. He is playing eleven levels up from where he was in May 2012.
Utter madness.

Bit disappointed in you Mart, you know exactly how it works and if you sign someone, even if it was for £50 then he must automatically be outstanding and capable enough to win games on his own!My team (Yeovil Town) signed a player last season who had been playing in Step 14 of the football pyramid just a year previously. Btw anyone else notice hart trying to head butt the ref ? I didn't watch the post match stuff but I'm hazarding a wild guess they didn't feature that bit ?
They did feature it, and the conclusion was he didn't try and head butt him........like Fellaini didn't spit.anonymous said:

Sky Sports News were reporting it twenty minutes ago but they've backtracked now, saying that LvG was talking about the injury then said "not six months or something....". Think that sometimes they are so desperate to get the story out first to look good before actually checking what is actually said. Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
